Here's the issue. From my perspective, Google used to be a respectable company, but through automation of customer handling and service they've elected to accept negative consequences and impact for customers - which isn't a very respectable position to take in my book.

And yeah, he probably doesn't have all the domain knowledge needed, but I reckon he had some help. Example; the 6 or so people seen on the video when they tested the tube.
I really can't see why people are bashing him. Yes, he was public about it, but he also created something that seems to work, and if it's a prototype, that prototype can be used for further development. It feels like nothing speeds up R&D like a crisis.

However, to be somewhat of a hypocrite, I don't mind abbreviations for broadly known terms, such as SaaS, DevOps or db. I guess it boils down to the context.

Currently I'm not using anything, so it will be a case of eating my own dogfood(so to say). Whatever I'll recommend is the one I'll be using. As to why I'm not using anything - eh, a combination of laziness and faith in my own password rule.
The major third party apps are still on Google Play though, why should they act any differently on iOS?
Your point on Chrome is indeed an issue, and I am pessimistic. While Firefox has a browser engine, how many can they spare to port/retrofit it for iOS?
