turboturbo | 2 years ago | on: Apple terminates Epic Games developer account, calling it a 'threat' to iOS

Gruber has a good take on this: [1]

> That Tim Sweeney tweet cited as an example doesn’t seem out of line to me. [...] Apple ought to stick to Epic’s deliberate breaking of the App Store rules with Fortnite back in 2020. It’s not even in dispute that they flagrantly broke the rules then. If Apple wants to make that a “lifetime” ban, they should just say so.

> Citing recent tweets, like Sweeney’s, that are simply critical — even scathingly critical (or to borrow Schiller’s term, “colorful”) — just makes it look like Apple’s policy is that if a developer criticizes the App Store’s rules, Apple will punish them for speaking out. I don’t think that’s Apple’s policy at all, but some people think it is, and this situation with Epic just reinforces that.

For `@remix-run/react`, I get the following error:

UNEXPECTED_DOCS_POLL_FAILURE 500 {"statusCode":500,"error":"Internal Server Error","message":"Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'changePriority')"}

> It would sort of feel awkward to start launching $1,300 M3-based iMacs (or $1,000 iPad Pros) months ahead of the $3,500 Vision Pro, which will have the M2. It feels natural to me that M3-based Macs and iPads will only launch after the Vision Pro, so that when the Vision Pro is announced, the M2 is still the “current” Apple silicon generation.

Your conclusion doesn’t follow from the statement by the post you replied to.

The relevant criterium that follows from the argument is the prevalence of real-time notifications in paid apps.

How does that force tracking cookies? If you revisit the page after seeing the error, the cookies banner doesn’t show.

This is quite the false equivalence.

Which Apple-made apps have access to your location without your prior explicit approval?

turboturbo | 5 years ago | on: Facebook's new policy bans blackface and some Jewish stereotypes

As a Belgian born in the late ’80s, this is both very understandable and slightly bewildering.

I can perfectly understand Facebook’s decision in the context of blackface being racist.

On the other hand, I have fond memories of watching a show for kids (on the public TV station) called “Dag Sinterklaasje”, which featured “Zwarte Piet” (Black Pete) in each of its episodes. This show invariably had a warm, charming and cosy atmosphere.

I completely agree with the decision, it’s just bewildering to realise that progress in social justice (if only symbolic progress) can catch you off-guard and forces you to reconsider parts of your youth.
