Yes even things like git are comparitively slow on wsl. Emacs in windows is also slow, haven't found a solution to this.

Well said, exactly this is the point. For devs a Mac is more comfortable to get things done with than with surface.

Great point, if something like this is done and students gets into learning and contributing to open source it is going to have a tremendous improvement on the quality of software.

Question - Can I trust cyanogenmod binary?
Compile the rom from source.
Question - Can I trust cyanogenmod source?
????, no idea, have to trust some one. (Remembering an argument from GEB about uncertainty).

They can make changes in user space and in application space and not share the source since only the kernel is GPL

> "I'm a Linux user primarily, use OS X at work, and detest Windows, yet I'd pick Visual Studio ca. 1999 over Eclipse any day. I'm an Emacs user, yet I'd switch to Vim in a heartbeat if I had to pick between Vim and Eclipse." - after hearing this from a fellow emacs user I am seriously considering a switch to Intellij from eclipse and see how it goes.

on: Introduction to Guitar
I know this is true in case of programming for a lot of languages. I am not sure whether this applies to learning guitar as well, I don't have any experience playing a guitar myself so, I can take your point as valid until I try out something and see for myself if there is a difference.

Got the same advice from some of my friends. Sounds right- try something cheap, learn the various pros and cons and the thing that suits us the best and then go for a more professional guitar.

Which guitar model would the community recommend to a beginner who is used only to computer keyboards ;-). Can we start with an electric guitar or an acoustic guitar will work better for learning.

I guess you are talking about the $250 chromebook, I am using a lenovo x120, having all my dev setup in digitalocean 1GB server. Do you use X or just fine with command line/emacs? Just curious to know how other people are using ec2/linode/digitalocean for development.

on: ProCog – a new transparent search engine
It is making connections to connect.facebook.net in almost all the pages I have visited. The page load times are very slow for me, I am sitting behind a proxy where facebook is blocked and connections to facebook timesout. This can be made faster and office friendlier with some changes. I will certainly find and, like or +1 ProCog page even if those links are buried a layer down if I really like it.

>> Its not very financially rewarding. And when you see the guy next to you making big bucks by just asking for status updates, forwarding mails and changing cells on excel sheets. You begin to wonder if its worth it.
I had this same question and asked one of the more experienced guy in our team on why he didn't took the managerial path when he had the chance and experience - his answer was "This is what I like". I could see that there are more financially motivated people in the team than there are people who love technology. If tomorrow the whole IT industry in the country goes extinct most of the guys who fill in excel sheets will be happy counting boxes in a factory as long as they pay enough.

True, I have the urge to check my mails often when my system lies in front of me, I made it a point to keep my laptop inside its case before sleeping and this has reduced the email urge to a great extent.

I guess this question is very subjective and might start a troll, I am turning this into a kind poll so, that ppl can up-vote their choice.

It is not a dummy company, it should be a company with significant backing, may be it should have been put up in a hurry. I was expecting something of this sort when many politicians and their kin started acting in movies and buying stakes in production companies. From their contacts page I could see that they are based in chennai
