on: Ask HN: How to find profitable side project idea?
Would you be willing to give a few examples of such products if I messaged you separately?

on: Ask HN: What would be your ideal travel website be like?
Yes, exactly. I am not having second thoughts, which is not a good sign. Basically, I am looking to make something that people use - may not be necessarily in the travel domain.

on: Ask HN: What would be your ideal travel website be like?
No, I think I would not only depend on users but they will have an option to put in data. I think initially I would have to scrape data, put some seed data myself, etc. But let's assume that the data is in fact there, then this aims to be a short trip/weekend getaway recommendation website. Is that something someone would want to use?
Ofcourse, please don't give away your focus. Though I don't think it matters because generally no one wants to build someone else's idea :)
So I just want opinions here on what a good travel site should do. I was initially thinking that this website I propose could get popular but now I am thinking - hey, anyone can google 'places around me for weekend getaways' and get a lot of links, etc.

It's an interesting point you bring up - no street cred and actually that's the whole basis of my question here. Given no 'street cred', how do we get our first clients. And your comment makes sense but then we do have industry experience working in 'big firms'. Maybe we can leverage that in some way? I mean what all can we do to have some street cred before actually having a first client? What do you think? Any street smart ways to do that? :)

Sounds like good advise - make a big enough potential client base and always keep in touch!
Thanks for your reply.

on: Ask HN: How's the IT job market in Australia?
Yes,I heard that as well from a few others. Seems like Melbourne has more of IT industry than Sydney? So, umm, I am not sure if this is a good question to ask but what's the inflation rate in Australia and what would you say is the average salary for a software developer with about 5 years of Indian experience? I can find the numbers from sites but better to talk to someone regarding this.

I am from India. The process is exactly like I mentioned. The two useful sites are skillselect and acs. All information is there.

Well, I don't think its complicated. I just took an IELTS exam, got my education and experience assessed by ACS and then made an EoI (Expression of Interest) application and got 60 points (which is the minimum one should have) and then after 2 months I had the invite.

on: Ask HN: Am I the only one tired with their bullshit?
True. There would be people who 'manage' things and people but I think you missed my point here. Don't want to have people who just sit and talk a lot. Don't want to give the reigns of power to such folks. Don't want to have an 'engineering manager' who codes no more!

You do not have anger management issues. I see people around talking about stuff they really have no idea about!
It also drives me insane when MBA types think that we need them to start up anything! Or they are the 'only' ones who can talk! I have something for them - I bloody know how to talk and I know how to sell my stuff. I am building skill and someday I will sell stuff that needs to be in the market and I would not need them nor would I hire them. In fact, my firm will be probably a firm without managers !

on: Ask HN: Who is actually doing something with "Big Data"?
Great! I've been looking for that sort of comment. Can you help me get started on some idea to build a data analysis tool to produce some useful results out of some large data that would normally take a lot of time for data analysts? I just want want to make a good hadoop POC. Technology no problem, I just want help some sort of idea on the idea side.
