on: Making an open source, privacy-conscious alternative to Google Analytics
I recently switched to
https://www.goatcounter.com/, which is also open source and privacy-conscious, and I've been very happy with it. Even though I'm on the free tier, the developer has been incredibly responsive to all the issues I've raised.

on: Ask HN: Which project does not have any good open-source alternatives?
DJ software! AFAICT Mixxx is the strongest player in this space, and it doesn't hold a candle to Serato/Traktor.

+1 for NixOS, it changed the way I approach my personal computer.

on: High-Powered REPL for Haskell, Inspired by IPython
It doesn't look like this works in the web browser or uses any of the Jupyter infrastructure at all. It seems like the UX is far better than IHaskell's Jupyter console integration though, which is fantastic.
IMO the biggest issue with IHaskell is that it requires a correctly configured Python environment (in addition to a correctly configured Haskell environment), which this also does, so I don't think this is a substantive improvement.
(I currently help maintain IHaskell)

on: Why the world's software engineers are moving to Singapore
I lived in Singapore for over a year and was very happy to leave. Decent tech scene but very little else going on. I don't see myself living there in the foreseeable future.

That's because it is.

The command is still `nix-shell`, `nix shell` is the next-generation replacement but unfortunately it's still not at feature parity with the old command.

on: Ask HN: Anyone using Nixos in production?
Yes, we use it for all our customer-facing web services at Zalora! It works as advertised and is rock-solid. I also run it on all my Linux laptops (2 personal + 1 work).

on: An opinionated guide to Haskell
I don't think it's fair to say IHaskell isn't for beginners, I found it invaluable when I was starting out as a richer REPL than GHCi. I agree with everything else you say about it though. I help maintain the project now and would love to know how I could make it easier to install and use.

I help maintain IHaskell and I'm sorry to hear you had trouble setting it up. If you'd like to open an issue on the IHaskell repo I can try to help you troubleshoot your install.
