FTC is misguided.

They just punish Amazon for being successful.

On the other hand, they (DOJ) should use the maximum might of the criminal law to prosecute using fraud statutes for sellers (and Amazon itself) when ratings have been manipulated, resulting in decades in prison.

viking1066 | 3 years ago | on: Why northern Europe is so indebted (2021)

It would make sense to correct for home ownership rate. With higher rates of home ownership, a higher debt is justified.

For example USA and Germany seems to have about the same level of household debt, but USA has 65% home ownership rate, while Germany has only 51%.

The other interesting thing is that South Europe in general has a longer history of financing public works like churches, than Northern Europe, but in terms of household debt, that relationship seems inverted.

viking1066 | 4 years ago | on: Belgian scientific base in Antarctica engulfed by Covid despite strict measures

Sorry I can't find the article, perhaps drowned in covid articles however:

There is a well known research paper from years ago showing that both exposure to cold temperatures and exposure to cold virus could cause cold symptoms, if I recollect right 30% probability when subjects were intentionally exposed to virus, 10% when exposed to cold temperatures. I don't recall the control group results.

This is consistent with covid appearing as an outbreak out of nowhere.

viking1066 | 5 years ago | on: Why is life expectancy in the US lower than in other rich countries?

Compare wealth and life expectancy of any ethnicity living in USA with the population living in their previous habitat, and the US population comes out on top.

Japanese Americans for example have higher life expectancy than Japanese in Japan, and I expect the same would be true for Ethiopians.

This shows the superiority of the American system.

I need to second the previous comment that this article is either based on deception or ignorance.

viking1066 | 5 years ago | on: U.S. citizens no longer have access to most of the world

I need to take a slight exception to "did not lose respect".

In an interview, Lee Kuan Yew said he felt very pained with Clinton's lack of dignity in interjecting himself into something as petty as a vandalism case, and as a face saving measure for Clinton reduced the penalty from 6 to 4 lashes.

I don't have the exact reference to this told from Lee's side much later, but the above story tells of Clinton's involvement.
