The universities have to focus on something else that provides value. If the author thinks that courses and diplomas are University's only valuable assets ... than yes, they are screwed. But I don't think that and I am actually full of hope that something awesome will come out of this.

He said that "the universe did not require a creator". Not that we know how the universe got into existence. That's a different statement altogether.

And he is right. Based on our current knowledge of physics & cosmology we don't need a creator to explain the universe. A creator may still be involved but he is un-necessary. So the question is now: "Why should we even discuss about a creator when he is both un-necessary and there are NO evidence whatsoever for his existence?"

PS: I hope I will not hear the "What was before the Big Bang?" question.

I am not even an US citizen and I know that US was built on faith. Most of the founding fathers were secularists and atheists themselves ... so this Christian value thing is bull-crap.

Faith must be a private thing and not thrown at you by the government.

And by the way ... you are clearly not an atheist :)

TRue. Just red it! Great book about happiness in general not just working productively!

vladimiroane | 16 years ago | on: Ask HN: WTF Is The Value of Real-time Search?

I have my doubts about Google Wave. If Twitter is still complicated for some people to understand (conceptually speaking) I feel not too many will find great value in the Real-time communication feature of Wave.

I don't think search is the killer app for real-time. Real-time communication is already popular with sites like Twitter and Facebook where the value is to see what your friends are doing in real-time. The use-cases for search are not so obvious right now. And you get this from a guy building a RT conversational search-engine.

I was a Seedcamp finalist and winner. I am also friend with quite a lot of YCombinator people.

1. Seedcamp seems more business oriented than YCombinator. Hackers and good code are appreciated but not as much as paying customers :) You tell me if this is a good thing or not.

2. Raising money is indeed harder in Europe. No doubt about it. But for European startups Seedcamp is still the safest bet as Seedcamp folks are more than connected with US VCs and angels.

I love Seedcamp and our company (uberVU) owes them so much. There are clearly some things they can improve but so far its by far the best experience any European startup can have.

When all the developers are the founders your approach will work. If you have a different dev team it is very very difficult to make your team so dedicated as you are. I think we have such a team but still having a system to put all the user stories on the same page and see how the team is moving helps a lot. If you reduce Agile to hyper specialization you loose a lot. It helped us a lot by: - defining what Done means - setting goals so we can release something new every 2 weeks - measuring our activity: what doesn't get measured doesn't get managed etc

And it is not about telling people how to do things. They decide how to do it, how long it takes etc... So I think you either got that wrong or I explained it badly!
