I've been writing code for 40 years. That will give you and idea of my age and my experience.

You are suffering from a loss and you are heartbroken. My advice is to allow yourself to cry. Try to cry as often as possible. Doing so will help you heal. As the days go by, you will cry a little less each day. Eventually, there will be days where you don't cry and you will start to feel better. It doesn't seem like it now, but you will feel better. Hang in there.

wwayer | 5 years ago | on: Ask HN: Is Anybody Enjoying the Lockdown?

I’m based in Contra Costa County, California and I’m enjoying the lockdown because the air is much fresher with the reduction of cars on the road. There is almost no smog and it’s wonderful.

This major security breach had nothing to do with the core Amadeus system, which the TechCrunch article described as "an outdated and archaic passenger record system." This breach was in the web-facing interface that has been layered on top of the core system, which is modern and undoubtedly implemented using the same standards and methods as any other web application.

It's now past 12:00 US/Pacific and the incident is still ongoing. I'm thinking that they don't have as many customers as they'd like us to believe. There's been very little discussion and no outrage. If AWS had an incident lasting this long, there would be a lot more noise.

I'm sore about it too. I had one of the original phones and I loved it. It was simple and elegant. The author mentioned something about spending too much time copying Android. That was definitely misplaced effort. Why not spend the time making something original? IMO, Mozilla spends too much time in general copying others. Look at the Firefox browser. It seems more and more like Chrome every release. I much preferred the original Firefox.

Here's a thought. Instead of criticizing the article for scaremongering, how about rebutting the points? If you don't believe the permafrost is melting, say why. If you don't believe the planet is warming up, say why. If you don't believe that humans are contributing to the warming, say why. If you don't believe that ancient microbes thawing out is a matter to be concerned about, say why. By offering this sort of discourse, those of us who don't study microbes and infectious disease, for example, can become better informed.
