on: Omg.lol – A lovable web page and email address
Cool isn't an acryonym but I get your point, I'll probably not be using it in 20 years either. It's still not something I'd put next to my name. It just comes down to being "not my style", there's a target market for this and it's not me.

Seems cool except I refuse to use the "omg" acronym, you're all free to, but for me I don't find it very tasteful. Even "lol" is pretty dated, it's the complete polar opposite of a domain I'd put next to my name. Will you still like this domain in 20 years? It's like getting a batman tattoo.

on: Telegram: No-SIM Signup, Auto-Delete All Chats, Topics 2.0 and more
In the UK you can buy a SIM card for 1 pound, and a 10 pound topup will activate it for 6 months, all with cash from your local garage.
It's always surprised me how they go on about encryption being the worst thing ever and we need to protect the children, while anyone can get online anonymously for 11 pounds. Also very odd how anybody can snoop on the unencrypted nationwide pager messages containing hundreds of thousands sensitive information in a steady stream, all it costs you is a 15 pound usb sdr and you can see pagers being sent to doctors on call all over the nation. Instead of solving this they spend millions on convincing you that encryption is bad, and want to prevnt you from talking to your loved ones privately.

on: See a Satellite Tonight
I'm convinced we're some of the last people who will be able to see star constellations, you can look up at the sky at almost any moment and find a satellite. How long before star constellations become unrecognisable due to satellites passing through them? What will the night sky look like in 500 years? In my childhood there were none, now there are thousands. Every time I point one out people spurt out "international space station" as if that's the only thing floating around up there.

on: Shell script best practices, from a decade of scripting things
What really put a stick in my spokes early on was not realising how whitespace acts differently to what I was used to. syntax error near unexpected token ? I was missing a space inside a [[ ]] - I started paying more close attention, this isn't javascript.

on: Smart mushroom growing device for beginners
If you think of mushrooms as a cycle, you can "buy in" right before they produce the mushroom bodies from pre-colonised blocks of grain. You're correct, at this point all the hard work has been done and the purpose of the 'container' is to build up humidity and co2, it can even be as simple as a plastic bin bag. This is the quick, easy and expensive way in my understanding, you make it cheap and time consuming by creating, sterilizing and inoculating those containers of grain yourself. It's worth doing if you plan on growing more, but if you just want to get started then buy the pre-sterilised or pre-colonised grain.

on: Reddit is raising a huge round near a $3B valuation
I hate it because of the tracking, scroll around with dev tools open and see the activity. Call me paranoid but I bet they're building a psychological profile on each user by watching how they interact with topics. I hate it so much I did something about it.
