Ask HN: How do you search for a P.I. side project niche?

Hello everyone,

I have learned about the idea of P.I. (passive-income) side projects only recently and I've been wondering how do people search, look for and find the niches they've built side projects for? Any ideas?

There are two orthogonal concepts that often get tied up in this topic. One is passive income. The other is full time work. Finding, validating, and building ideas for a passive income product/process can be a full time job. Along with providing customer support and improvements and growing the customer base, it probably is...and that's a good way to spend time while waiting for the next validated buildable idea.
