Can we ever manipulate things directly at the atomic scale to direct the creation of artifacts? That would seem ultimately where everything would converge to technologywise in terms of resource use and recycling of resources. I don’t think that is in the near future though and there are a lot of problems that need to be solved short term to ensure our species survival before we can get there.

I still think biology and chemistry are in their infancy. Being able to change the human body to live longer, be disease resistant...etc will be big. I think it'll take another couple of centuries, but hopefully we'll eventually beat cancer and other horrible ailments.
