My brother is an Electrical Engineer but unfortunately after college he was hired by an multinational oil company (there was a shortage of engineers when he graduated, good pay for people willing to join). Now he wants to make the jump to what he actually studied. He designs electrical circuits, solar energy projects... I keep telling him to browser job openings here in HN, but he thinks he doesn't fit, cause all he sees are openings for programmers. I keep telling him that electronic manufactures also need people and he would be a good hire. He's a Brazilian like me, speaks pt, en and es, has visa to work in a lot of countries but he'd like a remote job, at least partial remote. Right now he works in oil rig and spent most of his time there. Please let me know if you have a job opening for him.

Every software company has its challenges. I am already comfortable understanding objectives, meaning you can delegate to me expected results instead of the usual and time-consuming task lists. I will be responsible for gathering all the information I need in short and objective-driven meetings with you.

You will work with someone who thrives to understand, profile and solve real-life problems. Giving value through my solutions it’s a top priority for me. When I resolve one problem it’s a win for your business, but also a big victory for me.

If you work with me, you will have on your side a fast and determined learner, who loves to teach himself new technologies and programming languages, new business flows, and new business models. I can adapt to any business and its technology stack.

Hi, I'm Yuri,

Location: Haarlem, Netherlands | Remote acceptable | Unlikely to relocate

Technologies: C, Python, Linux, DNSSEC, LiDAR, SLAM, gcc toolchain, ASAN, FreeRTOS, 3D printing and much more.

CV: MSc Computer Science, 12yrs exp, https://www.linkedin.com/in/yuri-schaeffer: see about (character limit here).

Contact: [email protected], https://github.com/yschaeff

Available per: August 1.

WHY HIRE YURI:

You need a creative problem solver. Correctness and performance is high on
your agenda. You want to use *ALL YOUR CORES*! Most of the time you need an
experienced Software Engineer but occasionally you need to have a physical
prototype build *yesterday* while also needing a firmware and protocol for
that. You share a love for FOSS and the terminal.
WHY NOT HIRE YURI:

You have a solution to a problem and just need someone to implement it. You
are looking for an extrovert to initiate team picnics. You do not already
have a (small) team of fellow nerds assembled. The only sparring partner you
can offer while debugging is a rubber duck.

ASK ME ABOUT:

Simultaneous Localisation and Mapping (3D SLAM) based on LiDAR.
  Formalizing DNSSEC cryptographic key rollovers
Exploiting MPLS on a large Internet exchange.
Exploiting MDNS on ESP8266 (IoT chip)
Detecting and thwarting hardware keystroke loggers in the Linux Kernel
Counting sheets of toilet paper used with a gutted optical mouse.
  FOSS contributions.
BIO:

Software Engineer, Maker, Tinkerer. Recently I've been researching, designing, and implementing a LiDAR based SLAM algorithm for building a 3D model of a scene with a mobile scanner. The implementation is capable of crunching through multiple tens of gigabyte data with a processing time measured in seconds. Additionally I was responsible for the physical and electrical construction, as well as the firmware of multiple iterations of the mobile scanner.

I've been working on a energy monitoring platform based on a ARM Cortex A7 with big.LITTLE architecture. The 2 main cores run Yocto Linux and the 3th runs FreeRTOS for real time sampling of a 1 Mega sample/second ADC via SPI. This involved writing Linux kernel code passing sample data to the main OS via RPMSG.

At NLnetLabs I worked at standardization of Internet Protocols. Focussing on DNSSEC. Development, maintenance and community support of OpenDNSSEC, Unbound, and NSD.

I love learning by doing and am at my best doing something at the edge of my skill set. I've mentored a lot of university students over the years as well as tutoring math and programming in my spare time. I'm looking for an environment with like minded colleagues to immerse myself in.

Hi, I'm Will, a generalist SWE with a degree in Electrical Engineering, 5+ years of professional experience with embedded systems and wireless connectivity, and a wide range of other skills. I'm willing to tackle just about anything: hardware development, backend servers and web frontends, functional programming, machine learning, and computer graphics are all fields that I enjoy working with so long as the problem is interesting.

I've been happy at Google for the past 7 years, but after the year that was 2020 I've realized that I want to move back home (St. Louis, MO) to live near family, so my primary motivation for changing jobs is to make that a possibility. Most likely this will be via remote work, although a company with offices in the STL area would also be great.

Why hire Dip: - Worked as machine learning engineer + research engineer + backend engineer.

- single handedly deployed multiple ML system in production

- I believe creating baseline first and improving from it instead of going with biggest weapon.

- fast learner (worked on various project ranging from stitching photos to speech intent detection to solving NP-hard problems)

Why not to hire Dip:

- Need Research Scientist instead of MLE or Research Engineer

- Need senior (experienced) backend engineer

Hi,

My previous major gig was an Engineering Manager/Software Engineer hybrid (and occasional executive) at a 100% remote US startup for 5 years.

I also have a smattering of side projects.

I have wide ranging experience with software and technology.

I'm a self-motivated person and always learning new things.

I'm a creative thinker who is able to take a multi-disciplinary approach to solving problems.

I don't just do 'software', but also the business, legal, social and startup issues around software. (I'm well-read on startup literature.)

I'm a problem solver. Give me a problem and throw me in the deep end. You don't have to keep checking on me. I'll find a way out. I'll either solve the problem or provide you with the necessary information to make an informed decision.

I specialise in debugging hard problems which no one else wants to do.

I keep myself busy. You can see from my work history that, if not employed, I always have a side project happening. But don't let that deter you. I'm always willing to shuffle my priorities for the right opportunity.

Thank you for reading and hope to hear from you.

(No recruiters please.)

Posting somewhat spontaneously, because there is the opportunity and on the off chance that the right person might find this.

I created this project: https://tree-annotation.org/

It's an independent software-world-improvement experiment that I am willing to suspend my career for, for as long as I can afford. For now it's just a solo experiment that is the most interesting software-related thing I want to do right now and I put all my chips on it.

If I am right enough about the value of it maybe a community can develop around it and support continued development. There would also be tremendous business potential in optimizing existing infrastructure with this.

At this stage, I just wonder whether this is interesting enough for anybody to put their resources into supporting its development and seeing where it will go.

So if anybody is interested in that, and the potential to become a pioneering supporter of a promising future technology is not a reward in itself ;), in exchange I can help with my skills and some of my time applied to your business problems.

Constructive shattering of my vision or words of encouragement are also welcome (best by email).
