Ask HN: What kind of technical blog should I start?

18 points| jzer0cool | 3 years ago | reply

I had a blog before but its mixed with short snips of code, how to's and some personal anecdotes. It was not well kept and more something from long ago and not really comfortable sharing. I like to start a new one, this time, marketed using my real name, for example. What might you like to see (and not see)?

You shouldn't [0]

You should blog because you want to - or for fun (or because you have to for work) ... not because a bunch of randos on the internet told you they wish you'd write about building device drivers in bf[1]

My blogs fall in that broad category - they're there because I want to put something there (whenever it is that I decide to write/publish)

All of them have my "real name" attached, too ;)

In the past, I did it because I wanted to contribute to knowledge. Over the many years, I found I find knowledge more so than creating. I actually enjoy writing so I thought to keep it up beginning this year and like to point it towards a certain direction.

I kind of reactivated my blog recently and I'll certainly not overshare. Planning to post about what I've merged in my open source projects and/or any other useful snippet. Maybe some insights in a talk I've found worth sharing. Things that are okay to share and useful to remember for my future self.

I asked myself this question, and I got an answer by A. Jesse Jiryu Davis - Write an Excellent Programming Blog - PyCon 2016[0]

This was a good video. I watched through to the end and it shed a template for of things I may like to write about and also tackle away any writing block.

Take on some hobbies and document them, be it technical or not. It won't feel like a chore, you will enjoy it and it will be pretty valuable. My two cents
