Anyone else finally have YouTube force the adblock off? What works now?

I've been disregarding the ad warnings on youtube but today, while listening to music they finally forced me to turn it off. I was using u block origin up until this point

And holy crap is it abysmal, every ad is designed to be as horrifically annoying as possible.

So what's the state of the art with adblock specifically for youtube at this point?

So far, yt-dlp (https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp) still downloads youtube content (at least it downloads videos), and once downloaded there are no ad 'insertions' during playback.

Brave browser worked for some time but stopped as of today. The ad speedup extension (https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/ad-speedup-skip-vid...) is the only thing that still works afaik.

Yeah this really sucks. Part of my plan was to just use brave mobile but this stopped working as well yesterday.

I refuse to give google a dime of revenue though. If it were some other company I would have bought the paid service a long time ago but I absolutely will not in this case.

I use uBlockOrigin and the now defunct uMatrix - I never see any ads or warnings related to ads.

uBlockOrigin may also work similarly with noScript - I've not checked.

Might be worth asking on the NewPipe repo on github how they avoid the ads on the server side.

uBlock Origin on Firefox still seems to be working fine for me.

I'm on firefox as well. It seems like maybe they are to some extent A/B ing this.

They gave me 3 warnings over a period of a few weeks and then finally stopped playing videos unless I disabled uBlock for the site

One thing to note is that I'm logged in.
