Interest in an open-source alternative to Clay.com for data enrichment?

I'm considering building an open-source alternative to Clay.com (the customer intelligence/data enrichment platform). The core concept would be a self-hostable solution that can:

Enrich contact and company data from public sources Create custom data tables with flexible schemas Automate data maintenance and updating Connect with common CRMs and productivity tools Prioritize privacy and data ownership

My motivation: While Clay offers a great product, I believe data enrichment should be accessible to smaller teams and individuals without enterprise budgets. An open-source alternative would democratize access to these capabilities. Some technical challenges I'm considering:

How to handle API rate limits for various data sources Building a scalable architecture for processing large datasets Ensuring GDPR/CCPA compliance Creating a user-friendly interface comparable to commercial options

If you're interested in contributing or would use this type of tool, I'd love to hear your thoughts. What features would be most valuable? What integrations would you need? Any insights about potential pitfalls or suggestions on how to approach this project? Has anyone attempted something similar already that I could learn from?

The value of clay is is not its code base IMO. Clay connects many providers that each have licenses starting around $100-150/mo. Even if you open source your solution, users would still have to purchase subscriptions individually, manage their usage, etc. This can get expensive quickly. On top, it takes time and is annoying. Lastly, there's complexity to self-hosting the AI and web scraping stuff. I'm unsure if there are many GTM teams willing to put up with hosting this themselves.

Fun fact, you can actually rebuild the entire core functionality of clay using https://pipe0.com with ~1000 lines of code.

Thanks for your feedback. Many people are already used to using different tools to achieve their data enrichment goals but those who use something like clay to simplify the use of these tools In my opinion, a tool of this type is like an overlay see make and n8n but at its simplest
