Depends on where you are going. We did a trip to India and we got charged several fees when withdrawing from State Bank of India. It would have been even higher if we had allowed State Bank of India to the currency conversion. Do your research before heading to a different country.

Looking for Director of Engg roles. I have startup experience as number 2 hire. Also scaled a team from 3 to 30. IIT alumnus, work experience in India, China and USA

I was CTO of a small company and managed 20+ devs. Got down leveled to Engineering Manager even though the job I applied for was Senior Engineering Manager. They switched the title at the offer stage. I reluctantly accepted but now regret it. One, I think of them as crooks for this and I have disengaged from the work. Second, titles especially in management have a HUGE effect on future jobs. Before this job, I would at least be considered for Director of Engineering positions. Now, zero response.

Also, as others have mentioned, the current work is easy as I have done much more complex tasks. But at the end of the day, I won't be reaping most of the benefits.

Overall, not a pleasant situation to be in.

Very true. And so the common idea among SWE's - the fastest way to a raise is to switch jobs.

We are planning on moving and have done decent bit of research. In Fremont, rents have fallen, while smaller areas the rents are going up. In our apartment complex there are numerous empty apartments and a 2BR is 2100$. That's from 2400$ approx one year ago. We are looking at Reno and folks there say a similar 2BR house has gone up from 1200 to 1500. Now we are wondering if the savings is worth the lack of opportunity!!!

So rents in large metros are going down and rents in small areas are going up.

Sincere question - can you point me to such markets where interest rates can wiggle up and down without having as dramatic an effect on prices?
