Too much travel done by car in the US.

Sidewalk cafes in Europe thrive off foot traffic to and mass transit and bicycles.

All those cars require all the parking lots. Parking decks are too expensive for every little cafe to build. So the businesses group to pool the parking cost. A strip mall.

You want a cafes scene? Get rid of most the cars.

If a person were getting 10x the amount a person gets on unemployment + food stamps, you might be able to call that basic income.

Please show us all how a person living in a US city could survive on food stamps, ethana.

I agree.

Unemployment runs no lower that 70% among disabled people in the best of times.

Anyone that is not literally perfect (beautiful, slim, brilliant, healthy, emotionally well centered) faces huge obstacles from the powers that be in our society.

We know all about Hacker News "not that dificult"

I smell a simple 26 step process that can't legally be done in some parts of the Middle East and N. Korea, a few assembler and brainf*ck scripts, and a little simple arc-welding.

Adam503 | 12 years ago | on: Cyberscare: Ex-NSA chief calls transparency groups, hackers next terrorists

Michael Hayden was NSA director from 1999 to 2005. Michael Hayden literally was being paid a big salary to stop 9/11 from happening. How'd that go for him? Not so good.

Look at ALL THE TOOLS we now know the NSA Director really had at his disposal to prevent a foreign terrorist from hitting the US on 9/11. Micheal Hayden name's should down in along side infamous names like the Admiral who commanded the Pacific Fleet the day of Pearl Harbor.

Michael Hayden is the textbook definition of "the man who can't find his ass with two hands and an assmap." Hayden's picture should appear next to it in Famous Quotation books.

Adam503 | 12 years ago | on: Court grants Chevron access to 9 years of email data of activists, critics [pdf]

Wrong. Making a claim in a courtroom and telling truth has not got one thing to do with each other.

Chevron has the unmitigated gall here to claim the $18.2 Billion settlement against Chevron in Uruguay was the product of FRAUD. Chevron is claiming they did nothing wrong in Uruguay and they should be allowed to look look through 9 years of e-mail of activists to get the chance to try to dig up something up

Adam503 | 13 years ago | on: Aaron Swartz was 'killed by the government,' father tells mourners

Aaron Swartz was not a very big guy at all. Aaron Swartz would have been raped within moments of walking in a Federal Prison. Aaron Swartz prison stay would have been 6 months of non-stop prison rape.

Impending prison rape is exactly the sort of thing reasonable people commit suicide about. All the time.

Most of the Open Source/Free Software is far more concerned that new Linux releases can install with no problems in a used computer some low-income person volunteers to help rebuild someplace like Free Geek...

"The Adoption Program

Free Geek receives donated used computers from the public and Build volunteers refurbish them with care. These computers are then “adopted out” to volunteers in exchange for 24 hours of volunteerism to our Adoption volunteers.

Volunteers in the Adoption Program

    disassemble computers for recycling
help receive computer equipment from donors
    test basic computer components
    help keep our facility clean
Volunteer tasks in the Adoption Program can accommodate a wide range of abilities — we’ll work with you to make sure you can spend the time necessary to earn your computer. No computer experience is required to participate in the program.

Adoption volunteers disassembling computers When you complete your 24 hours of volunteer service, you’ll sign up for a basic class on how to use your computer. At the conclusion of the class, you’ll take your new-to-you computer home. Adoption volunteers must take the class in order to receive tech support. Adam503 | 13 years ago | on: Eugene Kaspersky: What Wired Is Not Telling You

There were 15 different Federal Intelligence agency just in the DC White Pages! You think all the employees of 15 different Federal Intelligence agencies (that they admit to, or all the private subcontractors like BLACKWATER) take no secret actions?

All those reflexively flinging "conspiracy theory" labels are just sheep in deep, deep denial.

Adam503 | 14 years ago | on: Ask HN: Have you ever had Carpal Tunnel Syndrome? How did you deal with it?

My Grandfather was big vitamin advocate. He was already 95 when an old girlfriend got Carpal Tunnel and he said to tell her to take a B-complex vitamin for it. I passed that advice on. In two weeks she was pain free. Gave the same advice to a professional guitarist friend a couple of months later. He was pain free in a week.

One of the B vitamins (honestly can't remember which B vitamin, though) is responsible for holding moisture in certaining tissues, including the tissues that line that tunnel. The tissues need fluid to protect the nerves in that tunnel from getting irritated and swollen.

Try taking that B vitamin complex for a couple of weeks. See if it helps.

Stop listening to Barack Obama talk. Obama talks likes FDR, but Obama's actions have way way to the right. Obama's not way right like Cheney but he is closing in on Reagan. Obama invaded more countries than Reagan, Reagan cut taxes more than Obama. Obama has kept extending Dubya tax cuts. Obama and Mittens borrowed ObamaCare from Bob Dole. Reagan never executed American citizens without trial. Actually, Obama's a bit right of Reagan now.
