on: In-N-Out managers earn triple the industry average
I have a part time job at Burger King right now. We have bags of fresh onions in the walk-in fridge that we peal and cut ourselves.
Same with tomatoes.
The lettuce, tho, the lettuce comes out of plastic bags and tastes oddly sweet.

on: Norway switches off FM radio, but a station is defying government order
My phone can play FM radio by plugging in a pair of wired headphones. And while most young people don't have cars, pretty much everyone around here has one of those.

I did not like Saka Key (some weird behavior sometimes), but Vim Vixen comes close to VimFx.

on: Ask HN: What tech were you convinced would take the world by storm but didn't?
Hm, omegle sort of has that. Put in interests and find anonymous strangers with those interests.
I met a guy to play Dota 2 with in 2012 and we've been friends since.

on: F.lux v4
I used to get incredible headaches when sitting in front of my monitor at night.
When I found f.lux, those went away immediately.

on: Fingerprints are usernames, not passwords (2013)
What if we did something like a mix of password + finger print, by using multiple fingers in a pattern?
Like, say, middle - index - ring.
It would be doubly unique.

on: Ask HN: How does an online game with AIs manage so many AIs?
And like someone said, with "real" AI, players would have a lot less fun.
OpenAI created a bot for the Dota 2 tournament and it makes the professional gamers look like beginners sometimes.

After I accidentally killed my Poker II (no more iced tea near my desk, I learned my lesson), I decided to buy a kit. Very excited to put it all together.

There should be more degrees of morality, most games make you choose "kill this person" vs "let them live", but there's more than murder to be a villainous character.

Maybe so people don't spam a link, hoping more people see it. At least that's my guess.

I'd love to know how. My Firefox, with 4 tabs open, will use up a gig of memory.

This is a problem I solved with a piece of paper and pencil (or a note keeping app on my phone) :)
"I'm low on ketchup, better write that down."
I like the project, don't get me wrong, but for me personally it would just add a layer of complexity.

on: Ask HN: What do you regret in life?
Leaving strings class (or orchestra, whatever you wanna call it) after just 2 years. I was pretty good at it, but hated practicing as a teen.
A decade later and I wish I could play an instrument, still.

I don't know whether or not it helps me fall asleep, but I've been using f.lux or redshift for years now and it completely stopped my headaches from looking at the monitor at night.
Anecdotal, yes, but it worked for me.

It seems a bit odd to me to ask whether the user has ever used a Linux system before, then ask which package manager they'd prefer (without an "I don't care" option).
I chose pacman, as I'm already using Arch, yet the best match for me was Debian with 87%.

Not him, but I live in a little village in Bavaria. My mother frequently leaves the doors of her car unlocked at night.
Sure it's different when you're in the city, but out here it's mostly older folks.

FWIW, if I get a link to YouTube while on my phone, I watch it in Firefox which also has uBlock origin installed. I just kinda ignore the app.
