Yeah, it's really rare that the company where you work for more than 5 years gives you a $50K+ raise, if you get 5k or 10K you are already at the top. But you are invaluable, because of all the stuff you've learned and can do.. leaving will mean bigger costs

IloveHN84 | 6 years ago | on: Amazon Is a Monopoly

Well, years ago, when Amazon wasn't a monopoly, who had the choice to make it one?

The final user.

Personally, I've never used Amazon before seeing a friend ordering a fairly huge amount of stuff from there. Prior to that, I was a not-so-obsessed-from-ecommerce eBay user, where I placed an order maybe every 4-5 months. I've started using Amazon because of its returning policy, which is better that eBay's, but by doing so, i've also increased the amount of stuff bought on the platform, because of time. Getting older and having more responsibilities, you've to save some time, then Amazon comes to rescue when it comes to generic stuff.

I guess now it's really late to blame Amazon for the monopoly, as well as Microsoft did in 90s with PCs and Google is doing nowadays with Android+Chrome.

Sure, there are alternatives, but the final decision on who gets the monopoly is the user

IloveHN84 | 6 years ago | on: Europe is edging towards making post-car cities a reality

Don't let be fooled by the "tourist impression". Staying for some days isn't the same as living in a place, involving commuting to work, bringing children to school, etc

Every city looks nice as a Tourist, but then it's hard if you live there and in the false zone of the city (=farest away)

IloveHN84 | 6 years ago | on: Japan's Women Opt Out of Marriage

It will be the beginning of our extinction least in rich and developed countries, where millennials strive to survive due to poor boomers' financial and political choices (sorry, but nobody mentioned it).

Give millennials more money that they actually receive and you'll see people take marriage as a choice again

IloveHN84 | 6 years ago | on: How SAML 2.0 Authentication Works

Well most of the software is crap because almost all of them use Shibboleth, where every configuration is stored in ugly XML files and then a reconfiguration means restarting the service with new XML files.

SAML is very used at Government level and because Government likes JavaEE so much, but the libraries/frameworks implementing/offering SAML are pretty garbage

IloveHN84 | 6 years ago | on: Librem 5 Smartphone Final Specs

My comment might be controversial, but for 649$, the hardware specs are felt like a smartphone of 2-3 years ago (or even more). They could have invested in a octa-core phone and more RAM or a better rear camera. 13Mpixels cameras are there since the Samsung Galaxy S4, for instance. When the phone will come out, I will be already old.

Sure, the final user isn't the typical iOS/Android one, but the lack of fundamental applications and a real app ecosystem should led them thinking of reducing their tag price.
