They blocked pirate bay and others in ireland in 2009 and all it did was stop the less than tech savvy from accessing them, and those people weren't torrenting content anyway. This isn't going to change anything

This is "technically" circumventing the protections they have in place for users not getting scammed out of their money.
As with all things at scale they have to turn you down unfortunately so they can have a specific stance with no wriggle room

One could argue that since these services are no longer needed or as heavily utilized due to people being able to work from home, then the service as is isn't feasible anymore and will need to change, rather than taxing those who are no longer interested in partaking in this service.
