Yah, maybe I should have been explicit, but I think my HTML change as semantically important. (My interpretation of the last line of the challenge.)

Yzupnick | 13 years ago | on: Ask HN: Computer Curriculum for Grades 9-12

The school is in NY. The kids come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Most, have been interacting with computers for years. However, a significant percentage, have effectively no interaction (the reason for this is a whole other topic.) What we are trying to do is 1)understand exactly what we should be teaching the kids who have no background, in order to "catch them up." and 2) Understand what pieces of knowledge should every single graduating student have.

Maybe I'm setting the bar to low. I don't know, that is why I am asking.

Yzupnick | 13 years ago | on: Show HN: Chime - A Notification Center for the Web

This looks great, congratulations.

1) Do you have any plans to allow arbitrary RSS as notifications, or integrating with ITTT? This could allow people to create notifications for services that you don't support.

2) While I don't believe everything has to be monetized, I was wondering if you do have a plan to make money, and if you do, would you mind sharing?

Yzupnick | 13 years ago | on: Dell in $24 Billion Deal to Go Private

Can't the reversed be asked as well? "Why start a brand new company for $24 billion, can't they just buy Dell? Is the culture/supply chain/infrastructure so bad that it has to be scrapped and completely redone?"

I would guess that Michael Dell is betting on the fact it is easier to change the bad parts of Dell, than it is to completely re-build all the good parts.

That might be true, but it does not negate what he is saying. I really like Skimmer, especially compared to the regular site, however I do miss scrolling with my wheel. The point is to A/B test within Skimmer.

I don't think the WSJ is lying to make it's point. The graph can be interpreted differently. Up until 2007 employment seems to be following a fairly regular cycle. In fact right before it seems to be going back up, then there is a sudden drop. That could be what the WSJ is talking about/

Yzupnick | 15 years ago | on: Microsoft Unveils Mango, the Latest Version of Windows Phone

Monopolies are ok if they are created and kept through legitimate means. And I think WebKit's monopoly on phones is legitimate and well deserved. If Microsoft put together a comparable engine (and it is very possible they have, I haven't tested it) then I would be happy that there is competition. But diversity for diversity's sake is not a good reason to not use WebKit. In fact it is very possible it would do more harm then good.

I am hoping* that Microsoft drops IE (the rendering engine not the browser), and throws it's support behind the Gecko engine. With Microsoft supporting Gecko, and Google and Apple supporting WebKit, we should see nice growth browser's capabilities.

*I know this won't happen, but who says a man can't dream.

Yzupnick | 15 years ago | on: Ask PG: Can we see the response to the HN changes?

Why would you downvote a well-intentioned but wrong comment? If something is wrong, explain why it is wrong. Downvotes, I think, should be reserved for comments that are 1) pointless ex:"agree" or "great post" 2) mean ex: "How could you be so ignorant!" 3) Way off topic.

Everything else should get ignored or warrants further discussion. In some cases it is even important to upvote "wrong" comments.

Yzupnick | 15 years ago | on: Wozniak: Tablet is the PC for 'normal people'

I think you are confusing tablets as a form factor with tablets as they are currently implemented today. There is no reason pcs can't remove all that stupid maintenance crap as well. (In fact it is on list of startups that Ycombinator is looking to fund.) And it is entirely possible that tablets can become just as cumbersome in that regard.
