on: Ask HN: How do you manage shared company passwords?
I have used
http://www.strongbox.io/ - it allows you to create a 'box' of passwords or other data that is securely shared with other users.

on: Hipset Launches Artist Discovery Program
If I was an artist considering this, I would want to see a video of the reviewing artist as they listened to my song. I would want to see their facial expression, and see that the reviewer seems like they know what they are talking about. Also, if I could listen to the music of the reviewing artist, I could judge if the review has any merit.

Are you accepting international applicants? (i.e. from Canada) Would you be able to get them hired in the US after?

I'd like to see an article that explains the difference between UI design and UX design, with examples.

Huge pool fan here:
Put this in a mobile device that I can mount from any angle and record all my games anywhere - I would pay a lot more than $0.99 for it!

on: How we designed our logo for $30
Sounds logical. If it fails, hopefully the reason for failure is not the logo, or an accumulation of things done quickly and cheaply.

on: How we designed our logo for $30
It may cost you more in the long run if you update/replace the logo you got for only $30 now.
The branding and visual elements for your site and company should work with your logo; so whatever branding assets you have (site, business cards, stationary, ads) will all have to be updated if you change the logo later.
I would not consider this to be a low risk experiment.

on: Visual design will not fix your broken business
The point about visual aesthetics may be true, but that's only a part of what a graphic designer does: a good graphic designer will solve communication problems, and that is definitely a business problem worth solving well.

on: Early Startup Time Wasters
You could try listening to podcasts - when I was 'commuting' (i was actually walking) to work, I'd listen to something informative and interesting, so I'd arrive at work inspired every day. For example, TED talks, or web tech stuff:

SEO consulting - it can be learned relatively quickly, is not that technical for the basics, and is a great complement to your programming/web expertise for your projects

There is one really important shared aspect: the point at which all the members of the band/startup decide to go for it - make a serious commitment.

Also, if this page itself was responsive would be nice: resizing the browser would select the appropriate view.

on: Demonstrating responsive design to clients.
Great idea. One improvement might be to make the mobile view look more like a mobile device; now it looks very much like the tablet. Perhaps the borders (sides in portrait, top and bottom in landscape) could be thinner.

on: Ask HN: Is there a particular metric for your startup that you track daily?
Is that all users? or just paying users? For profit, do you look at gross or net, or both?
If you could only look at one of those for a day, which would you choose?

Perhaps with the long generic word name, the site was perceived more as a 'website' while the shortened unique one is now perceived as a 'web app'.

on: Poll: Did you get into YC for S11?
I guess it is obvious, but even more clear would be: "Did you get invited for an interview at YC for S11?".
Also, does anybody know how many teams are invited for an interview, and how many from those are finally offered YC funding/participation?
