> But having briefly used Bumble, where the women must message the guy first, I never received a message better than 'hey, hows it going?'.

To be fair, Bumble doesn't include a lot of space for you to talk about your interests. If I can't get an idea for who you are based on a picture (yes, most guys only have one), what more can I say other than introduce myself? My go-to icebreaker is "Hi! I'm Ali. I'm bad at this."

Edit: I should also note that Bumble isn't a great dating app if you also interested in same-sex relationships. Not relevant to the parent comment, but relevant to me.

I live in South Florida, in Palm Beach County, where the bulk of these centers are. You see a lot of addicts. I don't know of any success stories to come out of them. But its a bit unsettling to be driving down I95 and see a billboard: "IMAGINE BEING SOBER". It's really sad and scary. Delray Beach used to be a nice place before the treatment centers came in, too.

I was looking for an apartment on Craigslist here not too long ago. More than half the rooms for rent I saw were "sober living" half way houses.

This is the reason I can't take Silicon Valley too seriously. It isn't the magic algorithm, it is that no sane person would want Pied Piper's storage because it does just what you said in the context of the show.

How is /r/t_d different from /r/theredpill or any of the other racist/sexist/terrible subs? I haven't really seen any overflow in a lot of the not-default subs, but it could also be the subs I visit. I mostly stick to subs for games I play, programming, and a couple BP support subs.

For me, the crucial change of how I curate my subs happened when 2x became a default. I hated the sudden influx of bad posts, mansplaining, and terrible/abusive comments.

I think you mean Sudafed. Sudafed is pseudophedrin, which is a great decongestant and used to make meth. In most states, you have to go up to the counter and ask for it, as well as supply ID and sign a form promising not to do anything illegal with it. Benadryl is diphenhydramine, which is just an antihistamine, and you can totally get in bottles (in the states). I tend to always have both on hand in case of an allergy attack. Granted, I'm more likely to reach for the Sudafed than the Benadryl. Benadryl has the side effect of intense drowsiness (I guess you can't sneeze if you're in a coma). I also buy a year's supply of Zyrtec and benadryl at Costco. It might seem like a "waste" but when you suffer from bad allergies, it really isn't.

I'm a long time pollen allergy sufferer living in the hell that is South Florida. I know my allergy meds.

alikoneko | 8 years ago | on: The state of Mac gaming

I always heard the Mac port of FF14 had issues. I just never knew what they were or how they affected the game until now. I think Square Enix demanding you buy a license for each platform you play the game on (non-Steam, Steam, Mac, PS4) is ridiculous and refuse to buy the same game twice. If I want to play on my Mac, I do the same thing I do for Overwatch, boot into Windows or play on my PC.

I had to RMA 3 Nexus 6Ps. I'm not sure if it was bad luck or the 6P just had a bad build quality. The first one the backwards facing mic died causing it to be the world's most expensive text messaging device. The second had a battery issue that caused it to be a brick for about 2 days (this happened over New Years too). The third, bootloop.

The process is relatively painless, with the notable exception being the 2nd time my Nexus shat the bed. It is unreasonable to tell a person "You have to live without a phone for a week." when they rely on UBER/Lyft for work. I had to buy a $100 burner Android. I'm sort of hoping I have a problem with my Pixel. I accidentally chipped the screen at the gym, and it bothers me slightly.

alikoneko | 8 years ago | on: Blue Apron May Need to Raise More Money Soon After Shrunken IPO

I don't see the value prop in things like Blue Apron. It seems overpriced for what it is. Between my roommate and myself, we cook every night (trading off nights), and take the leftovers for lunches the next day. $60 for a curated box of groceries for 3 meals just doesn't seem worth it. I spend half that weekly, snacks included.

alikoneko | 8 years ago | on: Nintendo Announces SNES Classic, Comes with 21 Games

Except for the DS line. I never had trouble finding any of the non-special editions anywhere. If you want a Zelda or Pokemon one though (that isn't a 2DS, the 2DS that shipped with X/Y preinstalled was incredibly common) you are going to have a bad time.
