SEEKING FREELANCER | REMOTE

Gravy | Product Designer / UX Designer / UI Designer

Gravy designs and builds the most beautiful and usable digital products. http://heygravy.com

We are growing our consulting capacity and are looking for a mid–to–senior-level designer to help design the future of energy system design, development platforms, healthcare, and more! Our current need is ideally for someone on a contract basis, with the understanding that the role will evolve into a full-time role if there’s a mutual fit.

I’ve been designing human-centered systems for almost 10 years now, and I’m looking for someone interested in learning and who cares about continued professional development. In addition to running Gravy, I teach design research, so come motivated and ready to learn! If you think you’re a good fit, send me your portfolio and share what’s exciting you most in the world right now.

[email protected]

It could be something cool you’ve learned, something you’re working on, or something you’ve just been geeking out about. Why is it interesting to you?

WORK — NYC/Remote

  Remote: Yes
  Design: UI / UX, Research
Engineering: Javascript, React, Redux, Node.js, AWS
  Contact: [email protected]
We are a designer and developer with a penchant for creating products. We’ve spent the last 6 months building an emoji-based pictionary bot over SMS, using Node.js and Twilio. Text +1(513)360-4807 to start a game.

We put together an article describing our design process. https://chatbotsmagazine.com/usability-heuristics-for-bots-7...

We’ve worked with large organizations like Bloomberg, GE Healthcare, Venmo, all the way to brand new startups in a variety of industries.

We’re looking for opportunities to work collaboratively on a project from concept to execution. Design and development, and the intersection.

That favicon of the White House in front of a red background seems to send a wrong message scaled down to that degree. I hope they fix up some of the design work.

azilnik | 9 years ago | on: Ask HN: How much do developers make in Toronto?

Sadly, the compensation for people in technology in Toronto (which includes devs, designers, pms, etc) is less lucrative than most major metropolitan cities in the US. I wish this wasn't the case, but in my experience, I'm making more than double in New York than what I would be making in Toronto as a designer. Would love to come back to Toronto if it made financial sense.

azilnik | 10 years ago | on: Cybiko

I totally had one of these. Actually two of them. Like simcop2387 I bought one originally for WAY too much money, and then 2 years later found another on clearance for $20. I used it for wireless internet in the house—long before we ever got wifi.

This thing was the first MP3 player I ever used, the first handheld organizer I ever used (though dad had a Newton), and the first time I ever really felt like I was using a futuristic tool. The thing could have been awesome.

The one thing I will always remember was that when I was buying it (dad bought it for me for my birthday)—he stopped me and said 'Are you sure you want this? I can get you this or a Palm Pilot'. Without hesitation, I went with the Cybiko. A year later I regretted it so much, but looking back at it now—the Cybiko was awesome and I made the right decision.

azilnik | 11 years ago | on: Techstars to open up shop in Detroit

Does anyone else feel like Detroit is going to be an attractive place for young tech folks to start their businesses in the next 10 years?

Are there any Detroit-centric REITs out there?

azilnik | 13 years ago | on: Get a review of your website. Launched today.

The star rating seems almost unnecessary, compared to the rich feedback you get from the comments. I notice my time incrementing, but what does that mean to me? Overall, nicely done. LOVE the on-boarding process.

azilnik | 13 years ago | on: Show HN: A community for designers to hone their skills, critique and share work

Absolutely. There's a huge psychological and group mentality thing with this project the team and I are working through right now. There's a huge risk in it spiraling towards being too negative or also too superficial. We're trying to keep a balance with meaningful, constructive feedback, similar to this site to be honest.

azilnik | 13 years ago | on: Show HN: A community for designers to hone their skills, critique and share work

That's a really nice perspective, and probably not one I would come up with intuitively. If I understand you correctly and may paraphrase, keeping it anonymous will prevent skewed perceptions on weight of opinion based on "clout", and rather keep it relatively anonymous and base clout on positive contribution, with the addition of opportunity to show off positive contribution elsewhere?
