I've been teaching wilderness survival and outdoors skills for years. I've been thinking of migrating "digital detox" into some type of outdoors settings, environment with a focus on doing nothing. (Plus if your phone doesn't work, you're stuck in the woods anyway...).

I'll be interested in the comments here for some ideas also.

Today was my iPad. But I've ran my laptop before many times. This is an express bus, with only a couple of stops and runs mostly on the interstate for 25 miles.

I picked up WireGuard yesterday, and within an hour, I had my server and 4 clients setup. Freaking gravy.

And this morning, I connected to the bus WiFi, I turned on WireGuard, and kept a constant connection throughout my commute to work. It just works so well.

I could never do that with my OpenVPN connections.

Our building once leased out a portion to a call center based in India. India's country code is "91" and to get out on the PBX was "9". But this old junky Nortel system would outpluse immediately when it saw the dial string "911". So when ever someone would try to dial "9911XXXXXXXX" it would immediately outpulse to our local PD when the dialed digits equaled 911. And whenever the outbound caller heard the PD pickup, they would get scared and just hangup.

Ugh. Those were good times.
