I have the exact same problem. When I know what needs to get done, even if it's tedious, it's not so bad to put my nose to the grindstone and work through it. But when I'm not sure how to approach a task, suddenly every distraction in the world is more appealing.

You often see the suggestion to break up big tasks into smaller, baby step chunks to avoid this analysis paralysis. Doesn't help when I'm not even sure what to do yet.

Weird UI effect (I'm using Chrome 59): When the blue loading bar at the top of the page completes, I get popped back to the top of the page, regardless of where I've scrolled to. Bar finishes loading after ~3-5 seconds.

The study was done with rapid games, against computers, where they discarded human losses on time. Not very confident in those results. But hopefully the researcher gets the chance to try and reproduce and use classical time controls, and human vs. human opponents.

Pretty cool! Some unexpected results, or at least not what I guessed. "summary" as the top for C#, "SELECT" all the way down at #43 for SQL, "err" as the top for Go (I'm sure that will spawn some pleasant discussion).

How has that worked out for you? I hadn't considered profitable side-project from the buyers side until right now, curious to hear your experience.

cven714 | 9 years ago | on: Ask HN: Do you still play with VR actively?

HTC Vive owner. Mine is mostly on the shelf. I bring it out when new people visit and want to give it a try, but I haven't played otherwise.

It's still a good time and the novelty isn't completely worn off...games like Chamber 19 (Xortex from The Lab) or Fantastic Contraption are a lot fun once I get myself to turn it on. But I haven't played a really compelling game--I'm hoping Budget Cuts is as good as it looks.

The wow factor is huge the first few times. The VR immersion really works. I just haven't found a game yet that combines that Wow with game mechanics I want to keep playing for more than the novelty of it.

I discovered a few years back that chess instructional videos knock me out immediately. I used to play competitively and am genuinely interested, but have never, not even once, survived an entire 20-30min video--usually Alex Yermolinsky and his fantastic accent in the "Every Russian Schoolboy Knows" series on the internet chess club.
