They could potentially have this... if they didn't filter or limit content at all (Safe Harbor) but Facebook (and Twitter) have explicitly chosen to do otherwise. They want to control what content is posted to them, very much so.

Facebook (and Twitter) want to have a particular narrative, and one that's ultimately to make their advertisers happier. If you don't agree with that (and, imho, you should take issue with that) then choose an actually free platform. One controlled by an American for-profit company will never be a truly free platform.

dark12222000 | 9 years ago | on: How big an issue is the nausea problem for VR products?

I've got a vive and at this point I've probably spent around 40 hours in it, including a few multi-hour sessions. Before that I played with an early Rift dev kit for several days.

The biggest issue is when the world moves without you - Windlands is a big culprit here. In general standing and using controller locomotion so far has been a recipe for nausea.

But outside of that, so far everyone who has used my unit (and that's about 20 some people currently) has had a blast. No cases of simulator sickness (and I've only seen two reports of that in the community as a whole so far) and no nausea other than an initial misattempt with Windlands.

Sorry, VR is probably here to stay, though whether it goes mainstream will be about whether or not the price can drop quickly.

This really just seems like the author is searching for things to gripe about. Has he tried buying most things in a major store?

His points about Amazon's UI are also missing me. The UI seems perfectly adequate and friendly - which is not to say it's the best UI/UX experience ever, but that is never the only business requirement.

This is the general assumption I've been under. When someone goes from "This is a secure product being actively developed" to "USE THIS PRODUCT FROM MICROSOFT INSTEAD OF THIS. THIS PRODUCT IS BAD. BAAAD", then well, yeah. That's sort of the canary.

dark12222000 | 11 years ago | on: Ask HN: How to learn design as a hacker?

Learning to design well is like learning to code well: You do it a lot until you improve. Examine "good" designs, thoroughly. Keep notes of sites or apps you find attractive, and try to find out why. Emulate those things.

Also, read some actual design theory books. Theory is to design what algorithms are to code.

dark12222000 | 11 years ago | on: How can an introvert Asian engineer like me make friends?

Every day, do something with someone else. I'm a huge proponent of Meetup.com - I moved across the country to Texas, where I had almost no friends. My wife and I started just heading to meetups, making small talk, shaking hands, etc. The biggest thing is just that you need to keep it constant.
