Let's not make this OK. How is this supporting anything ? It was offensive and still is.

Here is why some males think it's a funny word.

Slang; see penis. Often used to describe a large penis, it can also be used to describe a "average-sized" one or a small one.

This is the reason I resigned from a mgmt position. I was delegating all the interesting work (learning experiences). The team was too big for me to be hands on. If you can keep the team small you can still be the "manager/boss/lead". Hiring the right people can make it feel less bossy. I would do it again with a smaller group.

The birth of a child does something very similar, but in a joyful way. Wasted time (TV , useless relationships) becomes better moments. It's gradual unlike death were you can have a clean slate.

Definitely a fun challenge. If you're going to invest in the hardware and custom build. Forget the y cable. Figure out a better solution. Rent 1/2 rack next to it to hold the pdus. +1 on the massive door fans.

"We just want it to go to a good home". - Then a fixed priced is probably not the way to get there.

What's the ROI look like ? Lets say I absorb the development of the new billing system. How many clients will re submit there billing information ? If I leave it on auto pilot how long till I make my money back? 2.5 years ?

"With over 10,000 free accounts, there’s tons of untapped opportunity here in the existing customer base" Likely part of the buzz around the initial launch.

Pros: The revenue is there. The hosting cost is going to be affordable (low traffic), Cons: billing switch (huge problem), unless there is value.

"We either sell it by July 1, or we close it down." - Close it down != a good home at all.

What's the operational overhead? support via emails? charge backs? bug fixes?

datums | 14 years ago | on: Pastie.org host pulls hosting after DDoS attack

This behavior of unplugging the destination of the DDoS is common with smaller hosts. They don't have the capital to spend on expensive mitigation devices. There are times when these attacks affect their entire network (bad design), so their quick and fast solution is to null route you at their cores.

datums | 14 years ago | on: Giving away the secrets of 99.3% email delivery

No secrets here, these are basics. Since your mail is mostly transactional your volume is significantly low compared to people who specialize in mailing. Transactional email is less likely to produce spam complaints. Misspelled addresses are detected on first sends, which is what you want. You're going to get an error at the smtp level or a bounce.

Here's a secret - Monitor the ip to domain ratios , usually gmail will allow 1k of mail from the same ip per hour.

why have a tester work on a beta version? It's free software labelled Beta , it doesn't load on IE x , this happens. If it was released as stable, then there's a reason. You wouldn't be deploying the beta version to your clients anyway. But here is the point. You are running a for profit business, use a tool that fits the needs of your clients and the skill set of your staff. Have it built. WordPress doesn't have the features you need, things you want are not on the roadmap, and it's buggy. Why didn't you switch away earlier ?

Reply from Senator Gillibrand

Thank you for writing to me regarding S. 968, the PROTECT IP Act of 2011. I understand your concerns.

I am a cosponsor of this legislation because I believe that we must protect American intellectual property against foreign websites that infringe upon our rights. By empowering the Attorney General of the United States to go after foreign infringing websites, this legislation becomes a necessary tool to ensure that U.S. companies remain competitive in the world marketplace. I recognize that there are technical concerns with the enforcement of this bill that need to be addressed. I am committed to working with my colleagues in the United States Senate to ensure that this legislation protects the Constitutional rights of Americans and does not stifle lawful free speech or innovation on the internet.

Thank you again for writing to express your concerns, and I hope that you keep in touch with my office regarding future legislation. For more information on this and other important issues, please visit my website at http://gillibrand.senate.gov and sign up for my e-newsletter.

All [EC2] nodes are internet addressable.

They all have internet routable ips/hostanames.

Proper use of security groups would address most of the concerns described in the post.

nodes in security group A (load balancer) can access nodes in security group B (app server)

BLOOMBERG: The protesters are protesting against people who make $40-50,000 a year and are struggling to make ends meet. really? There's more than one bubble.

I hope they process bouncebacks and disable the service for the bounced user.
