You don't have an abnormal take here at all. Most people are incredibly resistant to this idea. My prediction is that it won't be a choice for the majority of people. Cars are inherently too expensive for each of us to own one, and the experiment of cars will not last as it currently does. If you can continue to afford it then you'll likely be able to, but that isn't going to be the case for th3 vast majority of people.

Being irresponsible with alcohol is baked into the culture. I don't think that is a good example to use.

Why would I want to drive somewhere just to shop? I don't care about rain. If it is absolutely pouring I don't need to to out. I don't feel the need to live entirely disconnected from nature.

Why? It's because you're making other people pay a large part of the cost for your convenience. We aren't going to tolerate it forever.

Seems that you're in the extreme minority in this one. I find that most items that are in brick in mortar stores are just junk, and I can have a wider selection online. Generally I don't return things because I was selective before purchasing. I've never had a lost package but I'm pretty convinced that I'd get a free replacement. Returns are simple.

I find it interesting to see the words "twin cities" referred to here as if we all know what that is. I can see that this is referring to Minneapolis as per the link, but without that we would be left to guess.
Here's a list of many twin cities https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twin_cities

If we can't make the more efficient cities sustainable, why in the world would it be possible to do the same thing with everyone spread out?

I am vehemently on the side against cars, but I will wholeheartedly refute that our summer weather can be worked around with clothing. It's far too hot and humid for that to do anything.

The parking lot requirements are a large part of what makes cars the only viable transport option in an area. They do need to go. And yes, other means of transport need to be provided.

on: Netflix is different now – and there's no going back
I am definitely not going back, but it's only slightly related to the sharing crackdown. I paid for my own subscription, but don't want them tracking where I watch from. Their job should be simple: send me the data for the video I want to watch. Anything beyond that is an overstep.

What is it about in person that makes people think more communication gets done? I swear it's the opposite in basically every experience I've had. When we work in ways that are better for remote things go more smoothly because we're actually communicating. Nearly every time I see people get together, less is accomplished. I attribute a lot of it to the slowdown of communication due to the inefficiency of in-person meetings. Things that could've been a few quick messages end up requiring everyone to stop what they're doing and wait.

People are still setting up plex in 2024? That sounded like a bad idea a few years ago and even more so now. Having to pay and route login through a third party doesn't seem smart.

I'm not taking a side, but I don't think that's a fair comparison. My family was lower income than this. My parents were at work so that we could have shelter, food, and not go into crippling medical debt for even basic care. There wasn't time for this kind of interaction.

At the end of the day we're the ones that have to put up with the rough edges of this software. File picker bug closed or not, the GTK file picker sucks to use. I don't have the ability to just swap it out in programs that use it, at least not within a reasonable amount of time or without significant maintenance of a forked codebase.

I'm not so sure that you can use being "bi" to get "power" in this kind of group. There's some fairly heavy dislike of bisexuality. It isn't universal but is not negligible either.
