Looks almost exactly like S3, except I don't think Amazon provides a drag-and-drop interface through their web-client. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.

I know a lot of HNer's tend to dislike FB, but I can't think of a faster way to get the word out of missing children than this.

"Which begs the question as to why anyone would use Facebook when it is essentially AOL done right?"

I'm often taken aback when I hear/read these kind of comments. It shows the gulf between most web users and a minority of techies.

I live in Japan and often access FB through my cheap, simple Softbank phone and service.

Unfortuantely, I can't take screenshots but FB has done a great job of making it easy to use. It even leverages various common emoticons as icons for everything ranging from "Home" to "Search" to "Messages".

And btw, it wasn't always this way; they made the change earlier this year.

Horrible timing.

But props to TC for treating AOL, their parent company, just like any other one and spilling the beans as soon as they could.

I agree. I thought it was interesting to see all the products in a graphical format but didn't like what was insinuated with the negative tone.

ebun | 15 years ago | on: Ask HN: How expensive is living in Silicon Valley

I can second this. I lived in the Tendernob (not as nice as Nob Hill, not as crazy as the Tenderloin) a couple of years back and paid 1290/mo for a studio.

Though a studio, it was still a decent size and I was right up the road from a grocery store, used public transportation/bike and feel that besides rent, it wasn't too pricey.

I had moved from Austin, TX and when I added everything up (accommodations, car-related expenses, etc), SF was only a little more expensive.

The interesting thing is that emails come at no extra cost whereas SMS will typically cost you if you go outside of network.

I have some expat friends here (Japan) who are so used to sending SMS in the states that they continue to send them here, accumulating extra-charges left and right.
