on: Portugal’s Marmelada Tastes Nothing Like Marmalade (2018)
humm i think actually in portuguese we have: doce, compota, geleia, conserva e marmelada/goiabada.
doce (sweet) is a sugar syrup with fruits normally mashed, this is not preserve this is made to be served.
compota (jam) is mashed whole fruits with sugar (pure de frutos).
geleia (jelly) is fruit juice jellied or thicken.
conserva (preserve/compote) is whole fruits preserved in a sugary syrup.
marmelada/goiabada is the same as a compota whit a mashed whole fruits with sugar, but since these 2 fruits create a thick jellied paste, we give it a proper name.
sot he is talking about is a conserva/preserve/compote is all the same thing, its a whole fruits you cant spread that, its for eating or making other things like cakes and such and Portugal has plenty of those as well hehehe :D

on: Firefox 29
the lack of options is what kills me, also the UI is filled with clear design flaws, and i still need an addon-bar, now i have to use even more add-ons just to make it work like it used to... ohh but we still have the weak performance, thats far from a priority...

on: Why I'm switching back to Firefox
I use firefox, always have even when it was buggy as hell, mostly because i needed all the web dev tools and was confortable with it, but i also use chrome for watching youtube and quick browsing (unfortunately firefox till this day is damn slow to open and become responsive).
Thats why im looking forward to opera's webkit version (so i can ditch google chrome for opera), i think google chrome is getting more and more creepy and has made some decisions that are more in google's interest than the users (like posting links on the speed dial or all the extensions that are nothing more thank links and all the extensions that are not links but behave like links, its weird).

on: VPN Services That Take Your Anonymity Seriously
the only problem with this is trust, you have to trust that these companies will do what they say, there is no way to confirm it, maybe all of them are logging and they just say otherwise, and when we are talking about privacy and anonymity thats a bigggg deal breaker!
also just because they do it now, doesn't mean that tomorrow they wont just turn on the logging... if you want anonymity and privacy you can only trust yourself and your own setup, leaving it at the hands of others is a huge exposure, as a sidenote since you are also using the services of a company that might attract the wrong sort of people that also migh expose you to potential problems (they give you up wrongfully, bad logs, payments to that company, the list goes on...)

on: App.net’s new direction
yeah no point! at this point its kinda mute... to be useful you need to have your friends in it! and the way its setup its not easy or user friendly to have people join, something like gmail gained traction with invite only because gmail is useful by itself you dont need anyone else using it to make it more useful, at this point it really doesnt matter if its dev friendly... twitter might suck right now for any dev, but app.net limited scope puts it in competition with way more tools than just twitter and facebook's of the world, if you are this limited, you might prefer to go use something like tumblr or do it yourself with your own hosting, why use app.net?

on: Why Pinterest-style layouts are worthless to everyone except Pinterest
Yeah, I don't agree with this guy, its not worthless, its just diferent, worthless would be designs that are too confusing or elaborate to get the job done, just because its overload, doesnt mean it doesnt get the job done, also personally i do like cluttered layouts for random stuff, if its important its less usefull but if its just random tidbits its actually way more useful and fast, same goes for small print! its useful for somethings and not so much for others, so this guys all or nothing opinion is kinda meh!

i sympathize and agree with most points! ubuntu is awesome, but some of their decisions seem to be more in their interest than in the users interest, but since im too used to ubuntu now, i moved to mint about a year ago! its kinda ubuntu without the bullshit! ^_^

on: Google+ is now the second largest social platform by active users
:\ you are joking right! did you read the policy? i'll quote "If your profile is suspended, you will not be able to make full use of Google services that require an active profile such as Google+, Reader and Picasa. This will not prevent you from using other Google services, like Gmail. Your profile can be restored by editing your name and submitting an appeal that will be reviewed by our team, as directed by on-screen instructions."
soooo nothing has changed! if they dont like your name or if you dont have a good enough proof bye bye!!! im not spreading misinformation, my coment is still pretty much valid, there is still to this day a chance that by signing up to Google+ that they will suspend your account!

on: My Gmail account got hacked. Google won't help. I need your advice.
Yeah most likely someone got a hold of your address book and is just spamming your friends, unfortunately dont neet to hack your gmail todo that (there are a tons of ways of getting your address book).
I would say to check the header of your spam e-mail on your friends mail box and see where the e-mail came from, if it was from google you might have some issue (maybe you gave some app or service access to your gmail, or have pop/imap enabled), if its not from gmail then dont stress about it, sooner or later the spam filters will pick up that its not from you ^_^ .oO( yeah dont hold your breath on google helping you on this, they really dont have any support! )

on: Google+ is now the second largest social platform by active users
That's actually the only reason i dont care about google+ , the real name policy doesnt only suck its freaking dangerous!!!! cause if facebook goes after your account, so what, you lose some pictures and posts? but you can make a new one and find your friends fast! its bothersome, when google goes after your account, you lose your mail, your documents, your adwords, your adsense, your android.... its a web apocalipse, and for what? for not using your real name? wtf is that! so i dont think avoiding google+ is a question of dislike, more like a preemptive attempt to keep your valuable data safe.
