on: Ross Ulbricht Convicted of Running Silk Road as Dread Pirate Roberts
Hardly surprising, his defense was in tatters after having his experts denied and his line of inquiry into mark karples blocked. The prosecution tracing bitcoins directly from silk rd to his personal wallet was just icing on their cake. This is a warning to everyone involved in these enterprises, OPSEC OPSEC OPSEC!!!

on: Gmail blocked in China
While this is undoubtably an aggressive move by China I can't help but doubt that the impact will be very large. By now most Chinese users of googles services are using VPNs so this really only affects the lowest common denominator of Chinese users

Celebrities are important to Facebook, enough so in fact that they made an entire app for them.

on: William Shatner reviews Facebook Mentions
I can't believe Facebook would force celebrities to follow other celebrities, It seems like their contempt for users is universal regardless of how important you may be.

Great work. This facebook policy was absolutely disgusting.

So the question now becomes how much did this bug cost MT Gox in incorrect refunds. Could this have the ability to affect their solvency?

Except that Facebook posts are public and everyone can see the failed communication attempt. Or Facebook messaging which is no better than email/text messaging and demands a reply. I love snapchat for exactly this no reply needed nature

on: Teenagers say goodbye to Facebook and hello to messenger apps
Their time is up. Too late now.
I downloaded BBM when it launched and its so far behind other services its laughable. The only way to add people was through inane PIN codes or email. Even the most basic messaging apps today have address book integration.
Such a waste of former market leadership

on: Finally, A Bill To End Patent Trolling
Good start but it would be great to see something targeting trolls which threaten small companies and individuals, maybe something forcing them to do a class action against all companies that use Apple IAP frameworks rather than allowing them to target everyone one on one.

on: Project: Roadless
I don't understand why this is necessary for him to develop this project further. Sure he'd like to graduate before working on it further but surely he could use the money to fund the actual project and worry about finishing his professional qualification afterwards? Even once his loans are paid off he doesn't promise any funding towards the actual project...

on: IPhone 5C: C is for Cognitive Illusion
I think this opens them up to new experimentation at the top of the market. The 5C becomes the everyday model that suits the average consumer. The 5S will become the experimental super phone. Following on from this I would not be at all surprised to see a larger screen phone join the 5S as a high end lower volume model for those who can afford/want it.

on: Will 2013 be the year Facebook becomes MySpace?
Exactly this. 5 years ago I would spend many hours browsing friends walls and playing games. These days I check it for 5 mins for messages and try to ignore the superfluous ads and like spam. Most of my friends have gone from having a new update every other day to updating monthly or less. Facebook will stay around as a tool but it is certainly no longer a social destination.

on: Android Overtakes Apple in Australia
Does this really surprise anyone? The cheapest you can buy an iPhone (4 outright) is $450AUD and contracted plans with newer iPhones start at around $50-60AUD per month. Android are outright starting at $49 and available at all spend levels on plans.
To be honest what's surprising is it took this long...

on: Firefox: browser ballot glitch cost us 9m downloads
I can't help but question whether some of the higher download volume in 2012 was due to the new rapid release cycle rather than the browser ballot being implemented.
