That's what I would call sharing. The problem with physical goods is that if you share it with someone, you don't have it anymore.
With digital goods, you can share and still own the product, so both are happy.
This works perfect for consumers, but not so good for the companies....

Common practice? I did a lot of search for popular companies / domains and didn't see such an add.

We don't own the trademark (I mean, we never registered it officially). Since we are small, we are putting our money on things that we thought mattered more.
I guess we will have to register it.

For Linux/Unix systems, definetely shell scripts (or perl for more complicates tasks).
Those are everywhere by default.
