on: What it's like raising money as a woman in Silicon Valley
It's hard to be sympathetic when all the female founders I know have had an easy time fundraising. Far easier than (most) men. I'm not suggesting that the women weren't qualified--they were--but I've seen so many qualified males that don't get a break on a very short runway and I can't help but wonder: if they were a woman, would they have raised? Why do you think there are so many women doing sales in private wealth, or IR for hedge funds. Women can sell. Personally, I'd rather fight off an ocassional suitor than go bankrupt and deal with that abyss of depression (again). Of course the grass always seems greener on the other side of the fence.

on: Founder At Startup: Can I Quit?
I'm a founder, and I get the sense that you're supposed to go down with the ship. Which likely means going into debt and declaring bankruptcy. If you're not the CEO it's probably easier to leave quietly, but make sure you give up most--if not all of your shares. If you're the lynchpin and you leave then it may haunt you. Future VCs are going to want to see that you can deal with adversity. Fail fast is only an option if you haven't taken external capital. If you have, the expectation is to swim until you hit land or drown.

on: Don’t Waste Your 20s at Google or McKinsey
If you end up starting a successful company this will in retrospect look like a brilliant move. But since most startups fail you may find that you are totally unhireable. There is a small window of opportunity to get these kind of companies on your CV and to learn from brilliant mentors. You can always go start a startup afterwards.

on: Is It Worth Being Wise? (2007)
I'm not sure I agree with PG here. I see intelligence as an ability to interpolate (usually quickly) whereas wisdom is extrapolation. I think about highly intelligent people who have a deep knowledge base and are able to use that to react to the 95% or the challenges they face, but stumble on the other 5%.

Slack is amazing. We dumped HipChat which had been in beta for 4 years! Slack had good iPhone integration (HipChat would bot give me notifications?!) Really useful integration with Trello.

on: Feeling depressed after multiple failure, any examples of failure to cheer me up
The most damaging failures are those that lead to a loss of purpose and place you on the edge of the abyss. If you're there I would go see medical attention. Otherwise we have very few options. Give up, or charge on. With enough rounds at the table you are bound to get a good hand. But try to focus on the positives and donyour best not to dwell on the negatives. It's easy to get into a death spiral of depression and that helps no one.

I wonder how much this cost Goldman from a talent perspective.

What stranglehold? Does anyone really use Facebook anymore?

on: How to Raise Money
Great article PG. I'd like to see more case studies on a successful fundraise at the individual level. How much foreplY do you need before you ask them to bed? How many initial meetings will here likely be? How long does this take?

on: Startup lessons
A list full of startup platitudes dressed up in pedantic rhetoric. Did you really learn this o'wise oracle, or did you just plagiarize a bunch of wisdom, rewrite it in your own voice, and claim it as your own? Elements of Style you are not because there is no great sense of consistency. And who the hell are you anyways?

How did this get upvoted? This is an old coversation and the article didn't actually add anything to the debate. Very spammy. Let's keep HN fat free.
