You're forgetting this is a warehouse employee where productivity is tracked and ranked against other employees. Amazon cannot write up one employee and not another without something like a dr. note to justify the different treatment.

The STOCK Act is supposed to prevent this. But the same politicians who passed the law and had the media cover it as much as possible, then later quietly passed another that the law would not be enforced.

on: Stop Using Encrypted Email
We likely need a better globally supported standard. I think Gmail is onto something with the "confidential" send setting, but I don't like that it's tied only to Google.
For my services that use automated emails, I only send plaintext emails and use shortlinks. No sense in wasting time trying to make an email look good on every provider and hope it's encrypted or worry about which ones it will be blocked from because they don't support encrypted.
It should be used as a notification mechanism nowadays. But we do need a better universal platform - maybe that's webpages...

I think and hope this guy is trolling. If not he will be left behind if a back end dev. Even if you have"real" servers this is how your micro services should be built.

You said it yourself: smartphones are already capable of it. So what difference does it make if you add an Alexa or Google Home? At least those aren't going everywhere with you. This is the defeatist attitude, but this tech is probably here to stay. We just need to do our best to make sure companies do the right thing.

Surprised Simple Analytics[1] hasn't been mentioned yet. I don't know how profitable it is but this seems like a great example re: the question.

on: How We're Building a Business to Last
Agreed. I actually didn't give it much attention for the longest time simply because of the name (I'm talking years - just checked it out a few months ago although I heard of it probably a couple years ago). Now that I've taken the time to check out the project, I'm sold and will definitely use it in place of Postgres, etc. But, the name does turn off some newbies. Eventually it may not matter as all good brands eventually just become familiar.

on: Ask HN: How to eat and drink properly?
I recently got serious about my diet. What I thought was going to be a very difficult lifestyle change that I was going to try for a few weeks ended up being much easier to achieve than I thought. Now, I don't ever see myself going back.
In simple terms: Eat plant-based foods, period. Veggies, fruits for snacks, beans, nuts, etc. Avoid processed foods other than plant foods that are minimally processed for freshness (liked canned foods).
I thought I would struggle to stop eating meat, especially chicken. After the first few days, vegetables and beans started to taste amazing! I had no idea what I've been missing all these years since meat mutes the taste of everything else.
I also avoid dairy and snack foods. I "cheat" about once every two weeks during social events, but even then I crave the healthier options. I now look at bad foods differently and I feel better than ever.
Tip: Take a one-a-day multivitamin that includes B12.
When you’re getting started, get rid of all the bad food. If it's there, you'll eat it.

For small projects, this is definitely still OK. Green browsers don't really need jQuery any more, but if it's what you're comfortable using and it gets the job done, then use it.
Large projects or team projects, you will want to use something with more structure.
