While your distinction about building a better mousetrap is true - the corporation building a better mousetrap needs more money to put into R&D and it can get more only if it is either marketing itself to investors (consumers in this scenario?) or gaining a larger market share by promoting themselves.

Your points resonate with me. In today's social media filled world where technology is probably the only major way for you to keep in touch with friends and family living hundreds of miles away - finding that balance is essential.

Going forward 'technology-life' balance would be the biggest challenge faced by millennials and the future generations.

Definitely agree with that. The socioeconomic background does make a difference.

In my city, the schools in the lower economic status did not even have a scouts/guides program and the ones that did were mostly in schools where the middle class/upper middle class kids went to.

I recently started playing around with the data sets on past Kaggle competitions and have been learning a lot.

The Data Science use cases there are quite interesting. Are there any publicly available data-sets (other than the ones available in competitions) to work with (especially for the marketing use cases)?

I agree with most of your points. If the current application system is modified to prevent the 'DDoS' by the big firms, it would solve most of the H1B issues and automatically fix a lot of things.

What would probably work is - increasing the visa application fees quite significantly if a company is applying for more than X applications a year.

Interesting list.

Do you use the hosting providers for personal projects? Why the need to have different providers?

I use the free version of MyFitnessPal and it seems to satisfy my needs for tracking macros and calories. Is there an additional benefit to using the paid version?

This does sound so unprofessional if you are hitting "Archive" button after skimming through resumes/cover letters. You do understand that candidates spend significant amount of time applying for an open position and trying to get your attention. Everyone's time is equally valuable.

A 'reply' template is rarely useful. If it is not a yes/no response, then you are just wasting more of the candidate's time by making them wait.

As a founder if you aren't able to handle the volume of the applications that you are receiving, then you should delegate the work to someone else and get them to filter the applications.

Well, following Netflix's mantra - it is a team and not family that you are hiring for. Anyone can Google and find answers, doesn't mean you would hire everyone, would it?

There are a number of basic items that a competent programmer needs to know off the top of his head. If they had to google for every single item, then their productivity goes down the drain and so does the entire team's productivity. You should fix your hiring.
