Personally I’ve been a big fan of strongDM (https://www.strongdm.com/).

Lightyears ahead of teleport or any of the other solutions out there. Built for great auditing and zero trust.

Best of all it’s multi-protocol. So you can do SSH, SQL, K8s, HTTP all with one access system.

Had it in prod for almost two years. Gonna be a long time before hashicorp or anyone else can catch up with the level of depth.

luminousbit | 8 years ago | on: Buying Lotion on Amazon.com

It's important to note that at least some of this problem is the fault of traditional retail. Aveeno MAKES all these ridiculous size and quantity combinations (at least some of these multipacks are shrink wrapped together). When a store stocks them, they choose to stock only a few. But Amazon is giving you GLOBAL insight into all available options Aveeno makes from any distributor who has access to them.

It would be nice if Amazon could make the comparison easier for us. But in this case most of the problem is that it's simply exposing the underlying wholesale/distributor model directly to the consumer.

Chargify | https://www.chargify.com | REMOTE | Full time Product Manager

We pride ourselves on our core values: http://chargify.fish and hope to find a candidate that demonstrates these core values in their professional and personal life.

Chargify’s mission is to simplify the complexities of running a subscription business that collects recurring revenue. Our product handles customer signups, subscription management, billing and retention so companies can focus on what is important - growing their business.

Chargify is 5 years old, profitable, and growing every month. We have an open, amiable CEO who engages customers on a daily basis, a CTO with a clear vision of the company's path forward, a stable of seasoned entrepreneurs as backers and advisors, and a close-knit team of remote workers that make Chargify better every day.

Position: Product Manager

We're looking for someone who shares our passion for our product and who will find ways to help our merchants succeed. We want to find someone whose communication skills and whose empathy in interacting with our customers match their technical skills.

Spunky Junior Dev & Ops Engineer [FULL TIME USA REMOTE]

Chargify is looking for a software engineer to join our internal development & operations team.

You may be joining us as a junior member, but don't expect to stay there long! We want to hire a sponge who is ready to take a big leap in their skills. We'll be there to help as you work to quickly grow into a standalone member of our 100% remote development team.

This is a new experiment. You’ll be joining the team focused 100% on security, reliability, performance, and internal tooling. This means backend-heavy work. Diagnosing hard problems, monitoring activity, building custom solutions, and delivering internal value. Your client-side chops, though awesome, won’t help you here.

Normally, there is no entry level to this track. But we’re looking for that special candidate who learns so aggressively that they’ll quickly pick up the specialized knowledge needed.

luminousbit | 12 years ago | on: Fighting Cargo Cult – An Incomplete SSL/TLS Bookmark Collection

I don't think this article is really helpful at all. The author attacks blog posts that state the current best-practices, but then goes on to recommend several books that are even more out of date than the blog posts. (Some of the books are 'theory' books and so presumably remain 'current' for longer, but not all of them).

Second, instead of allowing sysadmins to find and follow simple, well-researched best-practices, the author instead wants each person to thoroughly research the annals of cryptography in order to then come to their 'own' conclusion. Most sysadmins won't do this. Or they will miss something or make rookie mistakes (this why you're always told not to roll your own cryptography). To put it another way: "you should not roll your own choices about which cryptography to use".

So for the other 99% who just need to get it right and move on: find the current best practices from a reputable source (like Qualys) and use those.
