on: Thoughts on Man's Purpose in Life (1977)
This is the biggest question in Existence. I don't think I have the right answer in 300K years of Homo Sapiens history.
But I would say:
1. reproduce, have kids
2. keep what your ancestors gave you and make it better
Be a doer and a thinker. The Admiral was also right.

on: Good sleep, good learning, good life (2012)
I use a Huawei wrist band I got for 30 EUR. It tracks your REM/deep and light sleep. I would say accuracy is good but not exceptional.
All fitness bands brands (Huawei, xiaomi, Fitbit) today track your sleep. You can give it a try and decide by yourself.

No. Services from the state are crap. Motorways and roads are crap. Healthcare is good but not free. A country with 11 million people and 8 parliaments.

I remember in the mid 90's I used to post all my Usenet messages with a signature containing all the wrong keywords (terrorism, nuclear, Bin Laden, etc) plus greetings to the NSA spies...

When I lived in East Germany in 1998/99, I mentioned the Bauhaus in Dassau to my Germans friends (university professors) and they would not have a clue about it.

George Monbiot is a crazy guy with crazy ideas. I mean, crazy crazy.
The root of all our problems is that we have the worst of socialism and the worst of liberalism.

on: How the Arab World Came Apart
When Europe dominated the Middle East (and Africa), it was a pretty safe place. Certainly there was hope. Now the entire region is going down the sink. Maybe the problem instead is that Europe _LEFT_ ?

I recommend to read Raphael Patai's classic "The Arab mind" to try to understand. Don't drink the NYT koolaid.

on: Facebook taking mobile numbers from other sources and adding them to profiles
Currently you need a mobile number to create a FB account. For older profiles (I created mine back in 2007), it was not necessary, and I will not provide it to FB anyway.

on: Why I'm not a big fan of Scrum
In my opinion, the good thing about Scrum is that you can tweak the rules to fit your needs, aka, "Scrum in name only".
The daily standup, IMO, should be only to remove impediments, and if you have none, then a sentence or two will suffice. I see the DS as the most useful meeting, as you are aware of what your workmates are doing.
And if Scrum is still a pain in the back, then you have Kanban, which is sort of Scrum without the straitjackets.
But I would say:
1. reproduce, have kids 2. keep what your ancestors gave you and make it better
Be a doer and a thinker. The Admiral was also right.
