This is what I'm talking about when I say January is Productivity month on HN.

I've tried many of these myself. The 50 minute one worked surprisingly well for me.

Also, the latest thing that's killing it for me is a standing desk coupled with a treadmill.

Really happy with how that's making me feel and work.

Btw. Love your website, I'm also trying to put myself out there with a weekly newsletter for remote working parents - https://thursdaydigest.com/

Another anectode, the 2 weeks ago I had some minor urinary tract infection and the solution was - drink more fluids. Water or tea.

I was sure how much was it, so I drank much more than usual of tea and a water intake was normal.

At some point I reversed it. Stopped drinking tea, but drank 1 liter of water conciously.

And man did that changed things quickly. In two days my uti was gone and I had such a great time working more, thinking more creatively, even having clearer skin.

I have a boss like he mentioned here -

“His optimism is also remarkable and contagious. We went through many difficult periods over the years due to exponential growth, reliability concerns, etc. and his tendency to see solutions wherever others see problems is simply wonderful.”

It's amazing how one person can be such a blessing for your life.

Loved your post, agree with what you wrote, and I'm happy for you.

I should have led with that before my newsletter stuff lol

sorry

In my newsletter I just wrote a similar message.

As remote-working parents, we are under tremendous stress even if we don’t have anything else going on.

I used to be so hard on myself when I missed deadlines. My internal dialogue was that of shame, guilt, and self-loathing.

Had to change that. For myself. For my family. For my work. Form my community.

So here I am. Late with the newsletter. But still making it happen. Still kicking it. Still making it happen.

What are you still making happen into the New Year?

What makes you excited?

P.S. Would love to connect

This reminds me of a concept that you'll almost never see a scholar and intellectual go senile or have problems with the mind.

I guess it's because the brain is used so intensely it's the last thing to fall.

mustafabisic1 | 3 years ago | on: How to get the most out of next year (2016)

Not my cup of tea, but I appreciate the effort and feel it'll help a lot of people immensely.

On the side note, I've noticed that the best and most actionable productivity articles made their way here in January every year.

Makes me that much more excited about January.

mustafabisic1 | 3 years ago | on: The 5% Rule

I feel like this guy is my therapist and just told me a fantastic insight that's perfect for me at that moment.

As I was reading it, I came to the same conclusion as the writer -

You really have permission to free your mind of those people and just focus on taking care of the people who don't suck. Just expect it and move about your day.

That's freeing for me.

Implications of this are huge. Another that comes to mind is how many businesses have been left in shambles after their owner had died.

There was a thriving coffee shop here in my neighbourhood and after the owner (42 y/o) had died of covid it's close to collapsing now.

We'll need much more to recover from this than we had hoped.

mustafabisic1 | 3 years ago | on: Hard truths I learned when I got laid off from my SWE job

Happy it worked out for you. I had a similar experience only my wife had just gotten pregnant with my second child.

That game me urgency like crazy and with a bit of luck I found my dream job in 3 months.

I agree with everything you've mentioned but the biggest +1 for me is that it's lonely. I'd add that all job searches are lonely in my experience.

mustafabisic1 | 3 years ago | on: There is no ‘Next Twitter,’ and that’s OK

I agree it's ok, but I don't agree with the sentiment of the article that Twitter is disappearing.

It's anecdotal, but I feel that Twitter is on a big upswing.

I'm searching the internet every week for the best resources for remote working parents and lately I've found more and more best gems come from Twitter.

Btw check out my newsletter here if you're a remote working parent - https://thursdaydigest.com/

I love the process of thinking behind this article. Even though it didn't tell us much, it gives strong clues.

It's how I'd like to analyze marketing data when a strict control vs live is not possible.

mustafabisic1 | 3 years ago | on: My Workflow in 2023

I would 100% join the newsletter mentioned in the end of the article.

This can be an amazing tool for inspiration for my own newsletter for remote working parents.

I have so many sources of information and it takes me quite some time to gather my intel.

Then-again. If everybody would use the tool, there would be no need for my newsletter lol
