OP here and article author here.

Eh... might have come across as mean-ish, but it's nothing personal against Quip. They just did something I see a lot of companies do, which is gloss over some of the finer points of email engagement.

SEEKING WORK- Remote or Bay Area

Every website and marketing push involves content. But is your content effectively supporting your business goals? Is it performing as well as you want it to?

Chances are, if you hired a writer, or if you did it yourself, your content could do more to achieve your business goals. The missing ingredient is usually a careful combination of information/UX design, content, and ongoing testing.

I CAN HELP

If your content is not performing as well as you'd like, or you need new content for your marketing efforts, let me know and I'll gladly take some time to chat with you about potential solutions. If I'm the right fit for your needs, I'll share work samples and work up a proposal.

SEEKING WORK - Bay Area, CA or remote

Content is king if you want to be heard above the noise of the Internet. But if you're heads-down focused on building a product or making sales, you probably don't have time to make quality content for your inbound marketing program. And if you do have time, the stress of wrangling SMEs, getting consensus and approval, and building content that's as awesome as your company is can be killer.

# I help you solve content problems

I have seven years of experience writing engaging content that helps business persuade, inform, and educate. Before that, I spent ten years learning about, using, and training adults to use complicated technology. Because of this background, I'm able to make knotty, complex subjects easily understood using a variety of media, and enliven prosaic subjects with colorful analogies, custom visuals, and backstories. I write short and long-form white papers, case studies, howto guides, and web copy, and I get projects from concept to completion with as much or as little of your involvement as you want.

I combine disciplined project management with a flexible work style to integrate smoothly with even the most harried product or marketing team. And I'm practically a mind reader when it comes to talking with SMEs.

# I can help

If you have a content problem, or you need new content for your marketing efforts, let me know and I'll gladly take some time to chat with you about potential solutions. If I'm the right fit for your needs, I'll share work samples and work up a proposal.

The landing page for your app is visually appealing, but it focuses on features instead of value. The closest thing to a value statement that appears above the fold on your site is this: "Our easy to use collaboration platform has been built to allow you to work with your documents how you want and need them." But even this statement is quite vague.

If you can answer the following question in the first screen of your landing page, you'll make it easier for potential customers to become actual customers: "How will this app make my life better?"

I'd be happy to help you answer that question for your customers: http://www.hnofficehours.com/profile/philipmorg/

@Bleys, would that it were so.

I think mainstream culture is a bigger impediment to the changes you describe than voting system reform. But I certainly would like to see the kind of changes you describe.

philipmorg | 14 years ago | on: How Trello is different

For me, Trello is a powerful alternative to the linear list. The linear list has it's place (grocery shopping, planning certain things, etc.) but I love the visual way that Trello groups lists of things.

When managing a project, having multiple buckets that contain lists, and being able to quickly scan the buckets is highly effective. With linear lists, I sometimes forget to check one of my lists, or the list gets stale, and things fall into the cracks. Because it spreads all my lists out on a single board, Trello (the HTML version, anyway) helps me avoid this.

I agree that linked boards would be a great enhancement.
