on: Librem 5 Phone Funded
I wonder why none of the feature phone OSes have been open sourced? Is it because they only work on the one device they were installed on? Cricket and all the other feature phones before smartphones had tons of Operating Systems, maybe that would give people a head start?

on: Out of all major energy sources, nuclear is the safest
Sure its safe when you dump all your waste in another state. If your state that created the nuclear waste had to keep it, it would be a different story.

on: Pik – a new lossy image format for the internet
Now if APNG would gather some steam, high quality animated fully alpha transparent images would be nice. Gif's 256 color and 1 level transparency is ok, but to do better work we need something like APNG, although not sure how well it compresses.

If you believe in nuclear power so much, please keep the nuclear waste in your state where it's created instead of sending it elsewhere

It's seo, people outsource writing crap blogs for seo ranking and having fresh articles that Google wants to see the site is updated

on: Bay Area professionals indicted for H-1B visa fraud
Now if we could get companies on intern fraud that would be great. Interns are not legally supposed to take jobs from real workers, be unpaid (unless you are a non-profit), or be used for real work right away (like things that might be used 9 months from now possibly). But their main purpose is to teach them, not to be used for cheap/free labor.

on: In Video, Uber CEO Argues with Driver Over Falling Fares
In this day and age of the NSA, let them record it and put it all over the internet. I have a dash cam myself, but not for inside the car, although it does record the audio inside, (which can pick up some outside audio).

on: Lyft surges to the top 10 on App Store following the “DeleteUber” campaign
Companies make mistakes all the time that cost them. Uber just made one that will be talked about in hundreds of ways now. Just like Friendster, MySpace, Magnolia, Digg, etc.
It may not be fair, but it happens. Knowing how to make good decisions counts a lot regardless if you are at the top on on the way up.
In in the end, the customers decide what they feel is best.

on: Twitter Plans Hundreds More Job Cuts as Soon as This Week
Wonder if Twitter will end up like Delicious. Even with Pocket, Diigo and such, I'm not sure what people use to save bookmaks these days. Delicious went through several hands, Diigo was almost there but their bookmarklet doesnt let you know if you already have something tagged. Delicious abandoned their FF plugin and so its basically not worth using the site anymore.
I'll be honest, I wont miss Twitter if it dies out, as I'm not a user. The thing I hate is how Twitter killed RSS for many browsers and users. So if Twitter dies, so be it for causing that to happen.

on: The Backing Up of the Internet Archive Continues
The Internet Archive will still archive your site even if you use their recommended robots.txt suggestions to have them not archive your site. I had several domains where I setup the robots.txt immediately as one of the first things on my sites. While I owned the sites and ran them with the robots.txt Archive.org would not show any archive of them. However once the sites went down/changed domains, etc, the archive of them is now on archive.org. So all they do is block you from seeing what is on the site as of now, not forever. So you'd have to own the domain infinitely to have it not archived by them.

on: OkCupid urges users to abandon Firefox
How is Mozilla responsible for this? This guy wasn't even CEO when he made the donation in 2008 (as far as I know). So to abandon Firefox which is not his creation alone seems foolish. If anything abandoning JavaScript would make more sense since that is what he created, not Mozilla or Firefox.

on: Last.fm is ending their streaming radio service in April
:(
Last.fm had a huge library of music, about 100 times more variety than Pandora has. I discovered tons and tons of bands, that are obscure in other countries.
This is a huge blow to my listening experience and I'm sure will hurt a lot of obscure bands from being discovered.
