Lets see if we can get some use out of this thread:

What countries DO NOT SUPPORT SOFTWARE PATENTS?

My probably guess if China..any others?

shareme | 14 years ago | on: Yahoo Crosses The Line

And how many worthless patents doe USV firms have?

And where was Fred when MS started its shit?

Oh effing come one now, lets have a honest conversation Fred instead of some lame miss-direction..

shareme | 14 years ago | on: The story of Google Guava and patches

Google could carry this suggestion further and re-opensource all projects in the same manner including Android..

Not that it would be an easy transition but the long-term value from all the communities would be in Google's favor..

shareme | 14 years ago | on: It's not a talent shortage, it's a hiring problem

Yes you can in fact skip HR..

Shh..little secret..od you know how programmers skip FB or Google HR?

They submit a product to FB or Google that gets a buyout offer..

Smaller firms its much easier to skip HR..you just get a hld of the engineer manager

shareme | 14 years ago | on: How India Became America

a question..

Many other countries with corruption problems see a huge increase in skilled worker outflows..namely Russia with a 2 million outflow every 10 years..

Is India also facing a killed worker outflow due to corruption conditions? Outflow in the sense that the number is higher than the net difference between the birth and death rates.

shareme | 14 years ago | on: Loopt acquired by payment card provider for $43.3m in cash

some backstory..beware personal opinion

I had the opportunity to interview with Loopt sometime ago, right when they in fact did the name change to Loopt.

My read than was that they in long term terms were going to fail as certain constraints to do things were not in their best interests...at that time it was Mobile Operator limits..tie-=ups

Its a sad thing as current deal looks to be only based on patents values..not what Sam's team put into it..

Secrets of LSD...

Are you ready for this?

When humans and most mammals give birth the female body produces a drug that produces psychedelic effects as a counter to pain of child birth on the baby.

And guess what? That replay of effects is what we call the illusion of near death experiences that some experience later in life..

Is not the biological machine fascinating? :)

shareme | 14 years ago | on: TSA Pressures Mainstream Media Not To Cover Story

no they are spending billions to advertise traveling securely as what they are attempting to secure is so statistically approaching zero to be laughable..

in the 1970s when it was found that people could highjack planes by delivery a threatening note or bomb and using a parachute to jump out with money what do you think the airlines did?\

They took the statistically significant thing and changed how planes were designed to prevent people being able to jump out of airliners through the back escape doors.

It did not cost billions of dollars and no extra xray scanning machines were used either..

First act of de-toothing TSA is putting those qualified on security of airlines..the airlines themselves back in charge of security!'

shareme | 14 years ago | on: Stakeout: how the FBI tracked and busted a Chicago Anon

Contrast this with the China hackers that went underground 15 years ago, no chats..no irc..no bbs boards..nothing..

These anonymous guys are complete effing idiots..meaning any training FBI is doing in catching these folks is actually doing the FBI more harm than good in that its not preparing them for the hard serious hacker threats such as China hackers..

I have a question:

How might accepting a US citizen co-founder impact such a visa process? Does ti improve the the chances for success and if so why?

shareme | 14 years ago | on: The Linux Setup, Noah Lorang, 37signals

I am in the same boat as I do not want to use Mac equipment.

Laptops: I have good experience with Toshiba both AMd and Intel cpus..my next laptop will be an i7 Toshiba.

As far as build desktop I might not have to as there are some basic HP desktop PCs on sale that with 1 gig dedicated graphics that you could install SSD into and than supply two LCDs and a network NAS for under $2500.

That is of course you have choice between 2nd generation i7 and the AMD FX series cpus

And of course if you need to add a graphics tablet it will bring it up to $3000..but still not bad..

shareme | 14 years ago | on: Uncle Sam: If It Ends in .Com, It’s .Seizable

What people fail to realize is that US DOJ paved the way for other countries who do not want free internet to do what the DOJ does..ie India can demand that any *.in domain has to follow Indian law and take down any posts that disparage its leaders, etc..

Its really a very bad long term move on DOJ's part and especially undercuts the US State department efforts
