on: Fixing Twitter
Bigger issue is no developer trusts twitter any more. Just like LinkedIn. twitter has been unkind to the developers which helped it make popular. Remember things like lists, hashtags, media embed are all brought to twitter before twitter did so itself. But developers of these innovations were treated badly. And hence no developer wants to develop for twitter platform any more.

on: YC W13 Will Be Smaller
(a) can be solved using technology to some extent. What you need is a tool to record what a startup is doing and why certain decisions were made.

on: Ask HN: How Can We Help Make HN a Better Online Community?
I think best thing we can ask pg to do is remove points altogether. Points are great for optimizing and ranking, but just let them go from display and keep them only in backend. May be keep average karma for comments but thats about it. Also if removing points is not possible, then punish people, in some way, who have less average karma for submissions. I think that will remove any incentive from submitting non interesting posts.

on: Warn HN: Lots of Launches Coming
Perhaps you should create a launch module like jobs and pipeline the launch stories as is case with jobs stories. will help all startups of YC to get even attention from community.

I recently had a thought on how Viaweb's YC application will look like. It will be awesome if you fill it out. Will give us a bit more insight in how you think and look at an application.

on: Google Please Hire Me
I doubt he will say no if facebook/twitter/zynga/any other large internet company comes calling. Its a effective campaign which aims at google, but of course can go viral enough to be noticed by everyone else. Clever.

on: Ask HN: When was the last time you used big-o in a web app?
as recently as Yesterday. We use algorithms like knapsack problem, shortest path, minimum spanning tree and lot of predictive analysis algorithms. I have used 3 levels of analysis - memory complexity, CPU complexity and database calls complexity including cache hit/miss.

on: Founders: Burn Your Boats
Even though most of the times its good to have resources to your disposal, but few other times it does make sense to burn your boat.
From my personal experience - I was running a services company which was very profitable and doing good. I tried building 2 different products in parallel but got no where. As there always was money coming in and I was moving far deep into a comfort zone to motivate me. Finally I decide to shut down services business to focus on latest product. Even though its still early, I have at least been able to get product in front few hundred users.
I think thats why having too long runway (excessive funding) has its own downside.

It will be good to see what are core reasons for this. Any correlation between recession & increased startup activity for example?

on: Which options do I have to monetize desktop application like TweetDeck
You can charge people to use your product if it solves a real pain point. For example
http://clipyourphotos.com/bulkr/ and some other applications by a developer seems to be doing nicely. It may not get you to millions of dollars in revenues, but few thousands every year is a good start nonetheless.

on: Airbnb Nightmare: No End In Sight
Given how much information is available online, why cant airbnb use, eg facebook, data for identity verification. There are face recognition softwares available now which work well in controlled environment. Of course a persons online identity may be compromised as well. But that does not mean we can not device ways to protect against such incidents using multiple checks. Eg facebook account used to create person profile of guest & host and using face recognition of facebook training dataset and real photo via webcam along with perhaps social security number we should be able to devise ways to protect against such incidents at not very high engineering costs.

I think you need minimum 2 GB of RAM, ideally 4GB+. More than 4-5 tabs on 1G machine will deteriorate performance very easily.

I dont think you are being accurate here.
1. Everyone even the most loyal apple fanboy now believes that there is some evil in there. Even pg wrote an essay about it. http://www.paulgraham.com/apple.html
2. Google got lot of bad press after the deal for internet deal with sprint and since then have lot of trust in its users.
3. I think microsoft's evilness is perhaps more influenced due to mediocre products than anything else. Its no more evil than modern apple.
