So lets just say the savings as described in the article by not paying doctors as much would be $100billion (cut doctors salaries by half). Spending on US Healthcare was in 2015-16 was $3.2 trillion. Assuming there are no side effects in the market (such as number of students entering medical school would decrease etc) the $100 billion in savings is 3.1% which is a very small figure.

taurussai | 8 years ago | on: IBM Now Has More Employees in India Than in the U.S

In Bangalore, sale price/monthly rent ratio in an ok neighborhood would be around 200. In a pretty good neighborhood this go up to to 300-400. Mumbai is more expensive than this. Nobody buys property in India and makes a killing off the rents -- its mainly the price appreciation (inflation is around 6-7%).

taurussai | 9 years ago | on: H-1B visas mainly go to Indian outsourcing firms

If the government decides that the companies can hire people with the highest skill or the highest pay, it will be very hard for startups to hire H1Bs (or founders to get H1B visas). If a new system is being put into place hopefully it takes into consideration factors such as size of company, location/cost of living etc

taurussai | 11 years ago | on: How I Hire Programmers (2009)

Taking a different view here. The best ideas seem obvious in the future. I thought he was very clear articulate in how he does his hires (he would be the hiring manager here). While yes the manager needing help answers the "who" part of the hiring question, Aaron answers the "how".

taurussai | 13 years ago | on: USCIS Reaches 2014 H-1B Cap

The cap is only meant for new H1B applications. Those with already existing H1B visa or held a H1B visa in the past are exempt from this cap

taurussai | 13 years ago | on: [Ask HN] Applying to Y Combinator from outside the US - Some Questions

You can do it -- a few companies in my batch (W12) have done it and we have a large YC international community to help answer all your visa questions. Answering your first 2 questions (briefly):

1. Don't know -- my thoughts would be it depends on customers (if it is worldwide/local to India, team location etc.)

2. Yes, it is possible through H1b/O1 visa (a number of founders have done/doing it)

* Would recommend focusing on the application and interview -- the YC team,international YC founders community and recommended immigration law firms will help you once you are in...

taurussai | 13 years ago | on: Ask HN: Who Is Hiring? (October 2012)

First hire at stealth security startup (YC W12) - Mountain View, CA - Part-time or Full-time, starting immediately. Competitive pay / significant equity.

We are building a multi-platform security application and API that solves a relatively common problem for businesses and end-users in the domain of cloud storage and cloud-based sharing. You will be working directly with the founders and must be prepared to take ownership of significant portions of the product. Of course, you will be given the freedom to make decisions on your own.

Our product is multi-platform (currently Windows and Mac + some linux support), and our API can be used both at the client and server. The core application code is in portable C++, and we have front-ends in Cocoa and .Net, with Qt frontends in the works. There is a lot of crypto and experience working with cryptographic libraries is a huge plus.

Requirements:

* Plenty of C++ programming experience, especially systems code. Any platform is okay (Windows / Mac / Linux), as long as you are not biased against working on another platforms if required. * Great object oriented design and API design skills.

Other good-to-have skills:

   * Ruby on Rails
   * In-browser cryptography (JS crypto, Native Client experience a plus)
   * UI programming -- Qt / Cocoa / .Net
   * iOS / Android experience
   * Desktop application design / testing experience
Of course, we're not looking for someone with all of the above skills, but you must be a fast learner and someone who has fun writing code and working in a startup environment.

taurussai | 13 years ago | on: Ask PG: Does YC have experience with founders who were employed on H1b visas?

It is possible to get an H1b and start a company. There is a good number of YC founders who are internationals and have gone through this process (& know some of the hacks). In short, you need a board of directors (could be other founders/advisors etc.) to show the USCIS that the board can hire/fire you. Also, you need to pay yourself an estimated market rate.

taurussai | 13 years ago | on: Ask HN: What's the best dog-friendly area near YC?

Lots of space/trails in MV itself. Check out the Stevens Creek Trail -- it runs very close to YC and goes for a good 3/4 miles. You can find lots of people walking, running with their dogs. If you want a big house with a big lawn etc. you can move to Los Altos, lower prices with huge lawns. Also, if you just drive about 20-30 mins west from MV, the hills with lots of greenery are there, another 15 mins drive will take you to the Ocean.
