on: Why do War Thunder players leak classified information? [video]
I've always liked the version where the new guy says "103", and the prisoners go wild with laughter, slapping their knees and howling.
He asks "which one did I tell?"
His cellmate wipes a tear from his eye and says "none of us have heard that one before!"

on: Hundred Rabbits is a small collective exploring the failability of modern tech
I think sailing and free software have in common the type of freedom that is not unlimited, necessarily constrained by the reality of sharing a planet with billions of other primates. There are a lot of rules one must follow to share the pacific ocean (especially the parts close to land) with other people, but that doesn't make travel under wind power any less captivating.
Also, the Yamaha 33 is an impressively tiny and light boat for the sailing they're doing, let alone living and working on.

on: Tesla recalls 1.8M cars because their hoods can open while driving
Although the problem is with the hood latch, as with many Tesla safety recalls, the problem can be fixed with an over-the-air software patch. The new software is able to detect if the hood is open and, if so, will display a warning to the driver to alert them to stop their vehicle and secure the hood.
This seems like a generous interpretation of the word "fix" to me, but maybe I'm not understanding the problem.

on: Minecraft Wiki has decided to leave Fandom
Critically, the developers of PoE also provide hosting for the wiki pro-bono. The service is so beneficial for players I imagine they figured the game would benefit from an ad-free (and therefore more usable) community wiki. Personally I have recently started seeing the correct wiki at the top of searches so I think the SEO battle is winnable with community effort. It helps that Fandom wikis are uniquely unusable without an ad blocker running.

Can you imagine what people would give to own a word like "Tweet"? To have that kind of presence in day-to-day speech?

on: Musk threatens to sue researchers who documented the rise in hateful tweets
The quotes from Twitter's attorney seem to be claiming that the publication is incendiary, not that the results are wrong. I imagine there is more of a legal precedent for "these claims are made to harm us" than there is for "your conclusions are incorrect". Regardless, the title seems accurate based on the content of the article.

on: The Escalating Feud at Two Sigma
Stepping back from the direct chef/restaurant analogy, I think it's easy to imagine how being characterized as a "manager" compared to a "master" might piss someone off.
He asks "which one did I tell?"
His cellmate wipes a tear from his eye and says "none of us have heard that one before!"
