Honestly, the only fact that should matter is that Broder tried to drive 60+ miles when the car told him it could only do 32. The rest is just silliness because we don't really know the actual facts, its just heresy from both sides, until both raw data logs and call logs are released, which I doubt they will. Sure, that Broder is the NYT oil guy certainly doesnt help him though, and his lack of common sense and lack of basic understanding of physics may be the nail in the coffin of this issue, imo.

Well, even though I dont use instagram, however I can see why some people would. :p

Cute, fun gift? I guess yeah, but again, why only instagram? Oh well. I realize of course that I'm not at all their target audience.

I dont see the point, maybe i missed something. Why is this better than viewing the photos on a regular monitor, TV, or even beamer? and why only instagram?

zeru | 13 years ago | on: Apple posts its UK apology to Samsung

Im pretty sure they will have to post an actual apology which will be compliant with the court order. Because this has less than nothing to do with that. Try again, Apple.

zeru | 13 years ago | on: Steve Jobs passed away one year ago - HN Frontpage

So every time someone important in the tech world dies its ok that the front page is filled with the same story but different from sources? I don't see why one can't be enough and still have some other topics. There are many stories that clearly affect the community, but you don't see them take up all 30 spots. It's not like the story wouldn't be #1 or go unnoticed.

Though the mass flagging was of course unnecessary, it's not like mods didn't see that every single post was the same thing.

zeru | 13 years ago | on: Bethesda admits they can't get Skyrim Dawnguard running on PS3

There may be some bugs, but the way you are putting is extremely untrue. Given their complexity of the type of games, they are quite great.

On top of that Bethesda is one of the few companies that still create games with very high replay value, there are not many (i currently cant come up with even one) who still create games "with endings" (i.e. not MMO/RTS type games) where you can put in that many hours and still be entertained.

If you actually hate bethesdas creations, I simply think you hate the type of games, not the product itself.

zeru | 13 years ago | on: Hate Java? Maybe you should hate the industries stuck in the 50's.

Everyone has preferences and opinions. There's nothing wrong with disliking to work with any language because of how you feel when working with it. Hating a language itself is a bit different though, they all had, or have its uses (well, there obviously are small exceptions), and I don't think many experienced programmers would claim that they actually hate a language itself.

No language is optimal for every single type of project and workstyle, and knowing only one language you wont get far in most situations, and thats fine. However if I see a choice I can make between java and another language to use at work for what I'm working on, I do end up using java in most cases simply because I enjoy working with it more.

If blizzards confirmation isnt enough then who are you even going to believe? I can't think of anyone whos actually more reliable blizzard in this case. You prefer to believe random angry people on the internet who got banned for cheating?

zeru | 14 years ago | on: Bing revamps its search page with much cleaner design

I agree. I have been using the filters a ton, for images as well. Cleaner design doesn't exactly mean better, the filters are conventient as hell.

I know some people like to hate on googles personalized search results too, but to me they are pretty much perfect.

It does what it's intended to do. Use the methods you are supposed to use. You're just arguing for the sake of arguing now, or you just don't know what you are talking about at all.

zeru | 14 years ago | on: I’m an Engineer, Not a Compiler

If you are trying to hire an "expert" and ask him questions like that, you are doing it really wrong, unless you are trying to scare him away. If anything you want to actually talk to him about what he has done, about the languages, his thoughts and passion in the subject... not ask him first programming classes in college questions.

However if you are trying to hire some kind of junior-like engineer who has never had a job before, i can see why questions like this could be asked, but i still dont think it's the best way to gather knowledge about the person you are interviewings level of expertise.
