Would be awesome if more would start celebrating the winter solstice again instead of Christmas.

It would unite us more and based on science and not on some arbitrary thoughts.

So in the spirit of it: happy winter solstice everyone! (I know I'm 2 days late)

Have you ever added such services yourself?

It's effort.

It will allow more people to do a Monte Carlo search across a much broader spectrum.

The mass will filter through this by popularity.

And good people/artists will be able to learn faster, more and iterate faster over ideas.

For everyone else who actually doesn't care that much, they will get similar content cheaper.

After all there are so so many people watching normal TV daily with a ton of advertising or blindly radio which delivers the same top 50 list over and over.

I'm still waiting for my affordable microled displays.

But the last few years they became noticable used.

This year in a outdoor it event I had to check the display wall behind the speaker to check it out.

It was full color, fast, bright (we are talking no cloud hot bright summer day and that display was in the sun and it was LEDs!

Crazy impressive

The most critical point though: the race stared and will not just stop.

It's a question when not if as it's clear that we haven't found fundamental issues.

The opposite happens: more people use it already than I thought and companies are stepping up with insurance to cover you.

Yes the Tesla car driving into a truck, horrible but there was no genuine global outcry.

Interesting how a few people look at the graphs witch spike quite strong (much more than just a.few percent) and indicate that this is absolutely normal and has nothing to do with climate change.

Make out of it whatever you like, science tells us that climate change will erode our infrastructure and it will cost more than not doing anything.

You go there for the diversity of talks, all the open source spirit, great food and beer.

While it's definitely bare, and the weather was often shit, it's my most favorite conference

Dolototo | 2 years ago | on: FOSDEM 2024 Schedule

Haven't seen any kids so far.

I think it's doable but not a lot of fun. You will have to walk from one lecture to another outside, lots of crowding in plenty of spots.

Public transport is also full.

But there are two bigger rooms (one old one new) with good talks you can always go to

Dolototo | 2 years ago | on: Germany starts dismantling wind farm to make room for coal mine

Only because you have no clue about our history.

East Germany nuclear power plants were shut down due to security risks.

Chernobyl was a fucked up crazy event here too.

Even now you need to test meat from animals when they are shot I a certain area due to unhealthy levels.

And while France build 56 plants we never build that many in the first place.

And countries still struggle to build them. Olkiluoto 3 was planned to be done after 4 years, it took them overall 18 years!

And yes we are a democracy and a lot of people in Germany don't like to live next to a nuclear power plant.

France has the double of density btw.
