on: Practice typing by retyping entire novels
You may be interested in typing.io, which is specifically for code. I don't think it'll help much with numbers though. Personally, I've never gotten the hang of touch typing the number row, so I use the numpad instead.

For the record, Ethiopia's 2006 invasion of Somalia was US-backed. The US even participated in the conflict with airstrikes.

on: Defending a website with Zip bombs
The article says that 42.zip compresses 4.5 petabytes down to 42 bytes. It should say 42
kilobytes.
I don't see a way to comment on the article itself, but hopefully the author reads this.

on: Why American Workers Now Dress So Casually
I think it does. I'm guessing most of the people who take the single outfit approach do so based on what they've heard about decision fatigue. Not because they want to save the 30 seconds they spend picking out a shirt every morning, but because that decision supposedly impacts their decision making for the rest of the day.

AWS and Heroku aren't really competitors. Firstly, since AWS is IaaS, whereas Heroku is PaaS, they target different users. More importantly, Heroku is built on top of AWS, so Amazon gets paid for all the resources used by Heroku apps.

It's true that violence against women is very common and that is one possible explanation for this image. But isn't it possible that these people are just drunk and stumbling over each other? Maybe if someone found this image's location on street view we'd be able to see the couple of frames before and after this one and get better context.

on: Ask HN: Is Objective-C Now Dead?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't know many people that complain about the syntax of JS. Usually the complaints are about the many poor design decisions (due, no doubt, to the fact that the language was designed in only 10 days). So I don't think there's anything wrong having a syntax that looks similar to JS.
Also, though I haven't actually looked very much into Swift yet, from what I've seen, I disagree that Swift is just a syntactical mask on top of Obj-C. It looks to me to be following a similar approach to Rust and Go, in that it combines features of many different languages, object oriented and functional alike.

Why wouldn't you? I think it's natural to want to defend yourself when you're being attacked. No one wants their name dragged through the mud. It's hard to stay silent, especially considering that many people will see your silence as a sign of guilt.
