I have no idea what you people are talking about. All of my websites are https but the problem I have is that Google is NOT serving data from secure servers. Open the chrome console on my webpage here and look at all of the errors and warnings. All because Google refuses to serve secure content despite people complaining for YEARS in the forums.

Can't Google spend a little more time securing their own websites instead of telling everyone else to secure theirs?

I strongly, strongly recommend that you take up swing dancing. You do not need a partner and you do not need to know how to dance. I promise you that if you take a beginner class in lindy hop, it will be the most fun you have had in years.

It's totally unintimidating. Lessons usually run for 6 weeks and you go once a week. Usually the teachers will have everyone form a big circle and you will rotate through partners. By the end of the hour, you will have danced with 20 or 30 different people. When the instructor says rotate, you go to the next person, introduce yourself and then dance to an old 40s swing song for a minute or so. There is nothing in the world like real partner dancing (unlike that embarrassing thing that people call rock and roll dancing).

It's totally fun and you will make QUALITY friends. Not a bunch of drunk bar flys. Most swing venues do not serve alcohol. It really is a small part of the total experience.

Even if you are married, this would make a great date night. Give it a try for 6 weeks, you will love it. Here are some lindy hop places near you on yelp:

After reading about this on Hacker News, I went straight there to find my current favorite song, Happy, by Pharrell Williams. It wasn't there so I bought it for a $1.29. I wasn't happy. Then, I listened to the song a few times and I was happy again.

I also can no longer read reCaptcha. So I did the smart thing and got rid of it. Instead, I've been using this:

http://www.nucaptcha.com/

A MILLION times better. It's actually a pleasure to use. I've had no problems with it at all. Go to my website websmithing.com if you want to see it in action.

Death to reCaptcha. Your usefulness as a product is diminishing.

I have been working on my Google Map Gps Cell Phone Tracker for several years now. Recently, I updated the project to include tracking for Android, IOS, Windows Phone and Java Me/J2ME phones. The project allows you to track a phone periodically (every 1, 5 or however number of minutes) and display them in real time on Google maps.

You can also save routes and display them later. I use google adsense on my website and also on youtube. I have been averaging about $600 per month in revenue. Now that I have done this update (which took a few months), I suspect that my adsense income is going to increase dramatically. If you want to learn more about my project, here is the landing page:

I'm 53 now and I've been a software contractor for the past 17 years. Because of the economy and my age, I was having an increasingly difficult time getting contracts. It's hard to compete with young programmers who can work a lot faster than you and at a much cheaper rate. So I decided it was time to step out on my own. It has been very challenging, a little frightening (ok, a lot frightening), but I am making slow progress.

Today, I was very happy to find out that my project was nominated for "Project of the Month" on Sourceforge. It's been downloaded about 8000 times in the past 4 days and has gotten 24 5-star reviews. If you have an account with Sourceforge and have the time to look at my project, would you please vote for me if you feel it's worth it?

Thank you. I appreciate the help and let me know if you have any questions.

I had to go google this exact statement to see if you were quoting somebody else. What a profound observation that is.

nickfox | 12 years ago | on: Why The New Gmail Sucks

I wish google would change their motto from "don't be evil" to "don't be assholes". I bet they would get a lot more mileage out of the second one.

Really, when has google ever cared about customer service? Heck, the BORG have better customer service than google. And no, I'm not still mad about google getting rid of my beloved Reader... Why do you ask?

I'm not too much of a conspiracy theorist but I wonder if the Chinese are behind Colony Collapse Disorder that is devastating our bee populations... They destroy our bees and we are therefore beholden to them in yet another critical piece of infrastructure. I guess the best way to determine that is to figure out if CCD is destroying bee populations in China at the same rate as in the U.S. and Europe.

Far-fetched? Cut back on the weed? Stop reading Hacker News and get back to work?

nickfox | 12 years ago | on: Please Stop the Madness

No, I am not overreacting, you are merely part of the conspiracy. I bet you are a web developer. :o)

nickfox | 13 years ago | on: I Am a Bad Developer

I am NOT a bad developer. I have a resume that just kills. 15 years of experience. But, I am 52 years old now and basically have been thrown out with the garbage. Why hire me when you can hire a 25 year old that can crank out code way faster and is willing to work much longer hours than I am. All I can say to the hiring managers I've interviewed with recently is fuck you.

I'm not going to cry about it. I am writing my own software now for myself and making money. Should have started this earlier but I didn't have the wherewithal to do so. But now I do and I'm not looking back...
