on: Asian faiths try to save swastika symbol corrupted by Hitler
This attitude is borderline parody. Don’t be so stringent and assume malintent. Most people aren’t sneaking Nazi beliefs into everyday interactions.

on: Asian faiths try to save swastika symbol corrupted by Hitler
% of total population in 1930s Germany that were ardent Nazis vs. the rest of the world’s population shows that it was a small group of people.
Three hundred years from now, no one will care about said symbols anyhow.
When’s the last time we see people be superstitious or negative towards a worse person like Ghengis Khan? He’s part of popular culture; projecting into the future, as depressing as it sounds, so will Hitler be.

on: South Korea in demographic crisis as many stop having babies
Saying we have too many people is way too close to fringe ideas like ‘useless eaters’ or something worse. Those beliefs need to be challenged at any opportunity as they are borderline dogwhistles.

on: How is Japanese web design different?
I would love to work in Japan on their websites. I would take a pay cut if I could become a Citizen. But they don't want Hispanic people over there; which I understand their needs to be insular and homogeneous.

This is a Malthusian attitude that does not really encourage problem solving and collaboration; it's antihumanist to the core.
We should not retreat from our problems but solve them creatively - how do you do that? By solving's people's needs and enabling them to do what they want without worrying about poverty.

on: Ask HN: Do you genuinely enjoy your developer job?
100%. Love it. I work at a bank so it's pretty awesome & rewarding work: barely any hype, tried and trued technologies that have been battle-tested to hell-and-back, and great work/life balance. If they allowed me to WFH permanently, I would never quit.

on: My full statement regarding DOOM Eternal
This is so widespread it really lends to the conspiracy (almost certainly true) that most viral reddit content is astroturfed. Perfect example, one of the premier journalists in esports, Richard Lewis, cannot have his excellent and often-ground-breaking content posted to the LoL subreddit because the mods are in bed with Riot.

That’s an excellent point a lot of people probably doing worse harm than her, got away and are getting away with it. It’s a shame.

In my religion, proselytizing is looked down on. And I am personally against it :)

I hate the bar culture. I'm straight edge. I do not drink. Most people don't believe me. Going to bars where others are drinking is pointless.

Lock her up and throw away the key. What she did was incredibly perverse, disgusting, and immoral. She proved to millions of women that they too can get ahead, for a little while, by cheating, cajoling, and scamming their way to the top.
For women needing role models, she set them back greatly.

on: U.S. pushes Japan and other allies to join China chip curbs
As an American this constant China fear-mongering feels so out of place; it's like trying to plug the Titanic with your fingers. Historically China has been one of the most important financial centers in the world; this is just a regression to the mean. Why are we trying to stop it when the Chinese clearly want to collaborate with us.
The train's leaving the station without us. There's a political, multipolar, realignment between the Global South, i.e. the non 'golden billion', and Eurasia - and we're not playing a leading role when we should be.
Unipolarity is a unique abnormality throughout history; why do we think the current status quo of the U.S. hegemon is the default for the future?

I always cringe when people use the words 'engineer' in the realm of software development. They are accredited, licensed, and bound to some professional creed. We're none of those things.
